Hello Sweet_Pea
I think sooz meant to say board guides because the site doesn't have moderators.;)
I am one of the board guides for this board and I can move your thread across to the 'Old Style' board for you.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

Hi
The best start would probably be to read the first couple of pages of the Grocery Challenge. Try to work out what you are currently spending. If you can't then keep your receipts for a couple of weeks to find out. Don't try too much change at once - try to aim for a gradual change in both what you eat (try one new recipie at a time) and also a reduction of say £5 or £10 a week. As the new stuff becomes more routine you can change a bit more until you reach a comfortable level.
Make sure to join us all in the Grocery Challenge as you will get loads of advice and tips there, plus a lot of motivation! To save you looking for it, here it is!

This is my first post here and so I hope it's in the right place. (There's so much here that it's a little confusing and overwhelming at first.)
Hello and welcome  We have a thread on cheap healthy meals. I'll add your question to that so that you can browse the posts there. Take a look around the rest of Old Style, and you'll find loads more threads with plenty of recipes and tips

Here's a quick and easy one that my DDs kill for. It's with cherry toms and we eat seasonally so this is a weekly dish for us in summer when you can get big packs of toms cheap.
Spaghetti
buffalo mozzarella (has to be buffalo)
loads of cherry tomatoes - think maybe 8 per head
couple of glugs of olive oil
fresh basil leaves if you have (I rarely do)
preheat oven to 160ish (medium - you're just aiming to soften them)
Cut the toms in half and place cut side up on a baking tray, dress with a bit of olive oil and optional salt and pepper
Put the toms in the oven and get the spaghetti going - the tomatoes can just sit there till the spag is ready, so timing doesn't matter too much
Cut your mozzarella into small chunks and put in the bottom of a serving bowl that's big enough for the whole lot
When the spag is ready, get the tomatoes out and tip them into the bowl with the mozzarella - no rush here - you want the hot tomatoes to make the mozzarella melt a little - toss gently so the tomatoes don't disintegrate too much - I use salad forks
drain the spag and chuck it in on top - add another glug of oil and torn up basil if using and then toss the whole mixture so some tomatoes and cheese come to the top
Bring the bowl to the table and dive in. Nice with bread or salad. My kids fight over who gets the last goo-ey, juicy bits at the bottom of the bowl
As I write this I realise it's a pre-credit crunch recipe and now seems extravagant to heat the oven for a tray of tomatoes. I've got a remoska and will experiment - might work as it's not pre-heated so shouldn't overcook the tomatoes in the time the spaghetti cooks. I have also done it in a rush with raw tomatoes and that's acceptable but not nearly as nice. So think the answer is to have something else in the oven. I bake a lot of rolls for packed lunches, so would probably do those at the same time.
Anyhow, super easy and tasty dish!0 -
