The problem you will have is that you are having a fuel sample tested but you cannot prove that it is the same material that came out of the ASDA fuel pump - unless you took a separate sample at the same time as filling your tank AND sealed it AND had it independantly witnessed. This is why ASDA show no interest in testing your sample.
If you are the only person that had a problem with this fuel and up to now there is little evidence to suggest otherwise then the cause could be related only to your vehicle / your fuel tank.

How far did you actually drive with this "contaminated " fuel ?

GOOD NEWS- My insurers are having the fuel tested and so are Trading Standards. My insurers will cover the cost of the repairs and also a hired car. Wish i had contacted them 3 weeks ago but i did not know that they would cover for such a breakdown. They will claim against ASDA and i should also be able to be compensated for out of pocket expenses/inconvenience ect.
I have done an extensive search and there have been breakdowns especially in the Watford area when purchasing fuel. The breakdowns do not happen straight away. The contamination eventually blocks and burns out the pumps and totally disables the car.
I will keep you all informed.
    Kind regards:T

So do most people who fill up in Thurmaston Asda then drive to Watford before breaking down?

Not sure I'm following your logic.

Have your insurers told you what will happen if they can't prove the fuel is contaminated and they can't prove ASDA to be at fault?? Whos going to be picking up the tab then??

    Insurance cover mechanical breakdowns now?

I would have thought the best they would offer is legal services.

If the fuel is contaminated somebody somewhere will know.

I the driver of the petrol tank had a crossover (put petrol into deisal tanks or other way round) this will be recorded on the petrol suppliers logs as the garage undergrownd tanks are automatically monitored. TBH if a crossover has happened it doens't stay quiet for long within the companies who deal with it as it's very difficult to cover up! To long to explain why.

If the deisal was contaminated before delivery your looking at the terminals themselves and this is highly monitored and product doesn't leave the terminal before being checked. Plus you would obviously have a much bigger problem is a lot of tankers were leaving the terminal with contaminated product.

ASDA aren't interested as it will be passed back to the terminals who supply the product and the transportation company who delivers it to see where and what caused the issue. (and more importantly who if gonna pay the bill) If there is only little old you thats making a complain they won't bother. The reason is because I cannot think of any way only your car would be affected and thats why they are not acting.

I would suggest that pump6 got either the dregs from the bottom of the storage tank or he filled up just after the tanks were refilled by the tanker
i applaud his post highlighting these issues if this is the case

i offered advice on not filling your diesel car after the tanks had been filled a few weeks ago and got laughed at because all the rubbish gets washed about from years of yore

    i await his update

There are no such things as dregs. The tanks are constantly monitored and never fall below a 30% full level (unless something major has happened which has caused the site to run dry)

SB, can I ask why U avoid filling up after the tanker has been????

Are you saying that filling stations that 'run out' of diesel or petrol actually have 30% remaining that they are not willing to sell?

The dregs being agitated story is pub lore too. There are a series of filters and screens in between the tank and the pumps and within the pump itself.
