a lie to say I cant do something instead of saying or making up that I can? Ok fine bt then I am still OVER QUALIFIED, what do you suggest I do? Put it all back on the CV and be over over qualified?

id keep it as it is if it gets you a job then so be it, what your doing isnt all that bad as opposed to making yourself look really good when your actually not

also if your CV gets read and if you can afford to go to agencies

I have used agencies a lot in the past. The way I deal with them is to take one day to go round all of the ones I want to register with, having made an appointment to go see them before. I tend to go almost in interview clothes, certainly smart work clothes anyway, hair done, makeup etc. Once registered you need to chase them on an almost daily basis - unless you are in their sight line they often tend to ignore or forget about you. Eventually they get fed up with you and get you a job...

You sound cynical - jobsearch is a numbers game, the more you apply for the more likelyhood that you will get a job, so long as all the basics are right, CV, application letter, appearance, etc.
  • I would keep jobs on not because of relevance but because recruiters are really fussy. If they see any gaps in employment at all, they used to ask at interview if they were at least even a bit interested. Now, because they can be more nitpicking, they can screen out something like gaps in a CV if they're not explained. I'd put it down and list the skills and achievements you got with those roles. I wanted to get into a vocational role but had a purely academic degree however it turned out to be a point of interest rather than something I should hide.

I have applied for over 1300 jobs so thats not totally correct the more you apply for etc as I know friend who applied for one and got it but they were working at the time and its easier to get a job when working not when you have been made redundant

I am registered with a few big name agencies and was calling one evvery week till he told me he had never been hassled so much and I was to stop calling and if they found a job they would be in touch and reminded me it was a free service.

Sorry, should have been clearer, I meant you'd have gaps if you took any roles out.

I must admit I agree with this poster. Gone are the days you can pester as the market is a very different place. You have to be creative about how you get to the jobs. It's also not necessarily about the number of jobs you applying for giving you more potential to find one - I know the job centre does put a lot of pressure on people to do this and people do apply for ones they're not necessarily wanting to qualify a log.

LadyMA, I know it's a tough market but do find ways to keep motivated. It's not easy, but there is a job out there, you have to keep going. I found one in the end but it was a hell of time!

Actually yes. In the area I work in if you do not give full disclosure of every job you have had it would be considered to be a fraudulent application.

Out of those 1300 jobs how many interviews have you got? If it isn't a particularly high proportion then your CV needs looking at; if you are getting to the interview stage and failing then you need help with your interview skills. Maybe you are applying for the wrong sort of job? Often people become blinkered about what sort of job they can do, and if their skills are out of date in today's market, or their experience is limited then they could be doing themselves a disservice.

What sort of work are you looking for?
