Lazy postmen/woman

There is a big sign on our gate that says 'Please shut the gate' yet every time the postman has been they leave the gate open, how hard is it to pull a gate closed behind you?

Luckily we don't have dogs or kids that could get out if it isn't spotted  I am the only one who will shut someones gate even if I haven't seen a sign.

I feel like leaving a sarky note on the door reminding them again.

I was a postmen for many years and would always close a gate unless it was obviously it needed to remain open. I agree it isnt hard to close a gate usually unless its knackered.

Might be worth having a polite chat if you can see them. something like " would you please mind closing the gate after" trouble is with po is they have a large turn over of staff on many rounds years ago you get same postman/woman for years until a change over, the job isnt the same now rounds are much bigger and later start at least where I am

We have the same problem in our office - we are situated beside a meat factory and so the smell can be quite pungent at times. Therefore the office doors are kept tightly shut to minimise the smell. However, we have one postman who will walk through 3 closed doors and not shut one of them on his way out...very annoying!!!

While this would solve the problem, they shouldn't have to pay to compensate for the laziness of the postal worker.
  • Theres something in human nature that sees a sign and for whatever reason, they do the opposite.

I love the "No turning" signs at driveways.

Perhaps a tip at christmas would help.

Just say to them, "want a tip?" "why yes". "SHUT THE @:>$%&^ GATE"

Our postman always walks across the front garden to get into next doors drive, even tho they have to walk across our flowers and over a hedge to do it. Some people just have no manners.

We had the same problem and asked the postman to close the gate because we have a dog and free ranging chickens. He closed the gate for about a week, but then went back to leaving it open, so hubby complained about it on Twitter making sure that Royal Mail were copied into it.

They got back to him straight away and gave him a reference number and asked him to email them, which he did. They got in touch with our postmans manager and the problem was solved.

So, if you're on Twitter, it's worth complaining on there. There is also a complaints form on the Royal Mail website.
