As I've mentioned on another thread, at the tyre garage where I work air is always free and we even do it for you - even if you're not a customer of ours.

Like another poster said, our compressor is running anyway, the air line and gauge are there anyway and it only takes us moments to do.

It used to be commonplace at tyre garages, but so many of them are chain-owned now and of course if they're not making a profit with their time it's very much frowned upon.

We're in the town centre so it's easy for people to pop in when they're doing their shopping.

You might have a local garage near you that would do the same - it doesn't hurt to ask. We really do not mind if you don't buy your tyres from us (a lot of our customers for air are lease car or fleet car drivers who can't use us to buy tyres as they're tied to ATS etc).
    Would LOVE to win:
A hamper - any sort! A goody bag - any sort! A UK mini-break. A year's supply of something foodie. Anything Sci-Fi related
2013 wins - Cutting Room book, Rock n Rose necklace, £50 M&S voucher, Greggs coffee, £70 voucher for a Onesie

Last year while we were off for a day out, soon after we set off, I had a bit of a problem with the exhaust. The rubber had come adrift from the hook and the rear box was rubbing on the ground. Luckily we weren't far from a Kwik-Fit. So I popped in and asked them to take a look at it for me. I explained that we had a long drive ahead of us and needed a fast solution. The chap behind the counter explained that they were quite busy, but will do his best to see to us as soon as possible. Twenty minutes later a fitter came out to look at the car and spotted what was wrong. He said it won't take long, but said they were quite busy and will get around to it as soon as he could. Another twenty minutes went by and he came to drive the car onto the ramp. He got to work straight away, but also spotted that as the pipe had been dislodged, it had pulled the joint apart. He took it apart and replaced it with a new clamp, checked the rest and then let it down again.

I asked how much I owe and he said, "aah well, it only took ten minutes and clamps and rubbers are only a few pence, so nothing really." I was very surprised, given the stories I hear about Kwik-Fit, so I insisted he take a few quid for a couple drinks. The next time I needed new tyres, guess where I went.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
