Help with XBOX 360/Internet

Evening all.
I'm hoping someone can help-I've just spent most of the evening trying to set up my son's xmas pressie (Xbox 360 core with hard drive)
I have it plugged in to a joint PC monitor/TV and can play games OK
I would like to set up the 'live' membership but am having problems, even after looking at the FAQ's on the XBOX web-site
The PC uses a wireless (Linksys) router which is connected to Blueyonder Broadband.
I have connected the Xbox directly to the PC using an ethernet cable, but upon testing the settings on the Xbox, I keep getting a 'failed' message, something about not finding the IP address.
My son's gone to bed now so I can't do anything else tonight, but, I just wondered if anyone knows whether I am doing the right thing, ie, connecting the Xbox directly to the PC? I really can't afford to buy yet another overpriced Microsoft accessory (wireless thingy)
I assumed that by connecting the Xbox to my PC that the Xbox would simply be able to use the same wireless connection?
Many thanks

Hi there,
I'm afraid it's not going to be as easy as plugging a network cable from your XBOX360 into the computer and therefore get an internet connection. I think it would be possible but you need to be up for bridging the network connections between your ethernet port and wireless adaptor. I would also think that a cross-over network cable would be needed. I couldn't get this to work on mine though :-(
By far the best way of getting your XBOX onto the internet would be to buy an XBOX360 wireless adaptor, they're about £60 from any half decent games store. This will also mean that you don't need to have your computer turned on to connect. If you can run a cable directly from your router to the XBOX then do that - but I guess that wireless is what you're after.

Thanks RM, I was afraid you'd say that! Another £60 to find for a wireless adaptor!
I guess I could run a cable from the router to the Xbox but what a pain, do they do cables that long?0 -
yeah http://www.solwise.co.uk/networking_sundries.htm I'd go down the wired route rather than wireless.0

wouldnt a wireless access point work with it?
have a ethernet cable from xbox to AP, then connect the ap to your wireless network
its something i've been meaning to try with my xbox but im still trying to locate the right plug for my wireless access point lol0 -

My son has the wireless adaptor and it works great. It means there are no wires all over the place and he can use the xbox360 anywhere in the house0

The Microsoft Wireless adapter (well bridge) is expensive, but works very well. So simple to install and use.
I did originally use a wired connection (which if at all possible is much more preferable), but moved my xbox to a place too awkward to wire, hence got wireless.
If possible though, I'd look into using a wired connection first. It'll be more stable, faster, cheaper (depending on length needed) and tidy if you wired it properly (it shouldn't be visible)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I'm having a similar problem. CAn someone explain in simple terms how to connect my 360 to my laptop to enable sharing of the WiFi on my laptop??

i thought of that too. caus my wireless router is hidden under the stairs lol0

It says in the 360 manual it is possible if you have an internal modem or USB modem. I assumed it would be a similar case if you have a inbuilt wireless connection.
Someone, anyone HELP!!:rotfl: :j :T :bdaycake: :xmastree: :bdaycake: :T :j :rotfl:0
