I must admit, as soon as I used it it's shifted loads of stuff that the old Dyson and the new Vax had missed. Seriously considering the £55 Dyson service, just a worry that they might sting us on parts as I think it might need a new soleplate and possibly a new hose for underneath. Sigh. Still waiting for a reply from their Customer Services department, too.....

Why not ask them what is involved in the service?

The engineer took my MIL's Dyson apart, and replaced EVERYTHING on it!

That sounds ideal regarding the service - if they do replace all the parts that need sorting it would be fab.

I'm still waiting to hear back from their Customer Services..they said they'd be back in touch within 72 hours, that was last Friday  . I'll give them a ring if they don't reply in the next coupla days. Might give me some more bargaining power, the fact that they've not responded twice to my emails!

    Hi,
I cannot recommend Sebo vacum cleaners too highly. However, they are not as cheap as the prices of Dysons, Henry etc., but they are absolutely superb. Someone in an earlier post was asking the price of the bags. They are available from John Lews (10 for £6,95) and they will post out for free. For price comparisons try Kelkoo, pricerunner, etc., although you get a 2 year guarantee from John Lewis as standard whereby most other retailers give the standard one year. Regards - sallysaver

Yep i think sebo is one of the best vacuum cleaners on the market.you can open the bags and empty them and stick the bag together again.
They have a wire that will take you nearly all over your house,The rubbish Dyson never got to the end of my room, with the little bit of wire they have !Cost cutting again !

Saw a pet vax in barmey for £109.99, are these any good? Is it worth having one that cleans carpets or just a faff?

The link is to Bissell's own factory distribution centre, I have ordered two vacuums one for myself the other for my parents, no problem at all so no worries. Delivery was within 7 days and I would order again and recommend without hesitation, the Bissell Lift off is a terrific buy.

i have to add that i looked on here a couple of weeks ago when we needed yet another new vac - we have loads of pets and we seem to buy a new vac every year!

worst thing is that i like to use the nozzle a lot - and they seem to stop after a short while, and you have to wait a few hours b4 you can use them again.

anyway, i followed the link to bissell from a lady on here and decided to buy the re-con lift off at £49.00 (delivery included) and it is so fab! we love it - it is like a new toy!

really powerful and cleans really well. and, you can 'lift-off' the middle section and use it as a carry-around cylinder. has lots of attachments, really long lead and i can use it on the nozzle no probs. it also comes with a 1 year gua:T rantee

another poster said they didn't like it because it blows hot air out - i think that is the reason it can stay on so long. it really suits me anyway!

:j From some one with an engineering point of view the Sebo is excellent, ours is 12yrs old and never a fault. I have regularly hoovered building rubble and cars and it never complains. John Lewis staff use them to clean the store. A builder came to my wifes place with one that is now 14yrs old and still going strong. My sister and now several guys in work have bought them and no one has a bad word to say.

The filter is at the side so you don't lose suction as the bag fills up.
They auto find the correct level to provide optimum vacuuming.
They have toothed belt drive that you can't see and the beater roller is easy to remove for cleaning.
The bags are several layers thick for filtering, some models being hospital grade HEPA filters.
When you empty the bag it's like the weight of a brick and there's a sealing cap to stop dust escaping.

It's very powerful, ours has sucked up socks, never to be seen again. It got a bit close to xmas lights one year and destroyed the cable whilst pulling the tree over and dragging it across the carpet!

Yes it's £180 - £200 but well worth it, especially if you consider the lack of repair costs.

Also, they don't look like they've been designed by a 5yr old with a new colouring set!
