Rosiebabes wrote:I buy my hoovers from Costco, I have gone through 3 Dysons and now have a Bissell Lift off and they have all been Crap. As they wear out I take them back in one door get a refund and go in and buy a different model, I must say this Bissell is the worst. The bagless canister is very small, it is very heavy when upright for pushing about, the plate at the bottom doesnt come off to clean the brushes and the motor blows out VERY VERY hot air, so if you are using it as a lift off you have to carry it blowing out all this hot air, as if you lay it down to move stuff out of the way or need to use your other hand you have to lay it on the motor as it is on the back. The ONLY positive thing I could say about it is, the front bit is quite low so it fits under the front of our suite, which the dyson didn't, but other then that I have built myself up into such a rage about this one I can feel a trip to costco coming on, see if they have a vax!! sorry about the rant, regards R x.
lol! great rant, thanks for the warning, i was tempted to go for a bissell looking at the prices another mse'r posted earlier but i might just have to give it a miss after ur rant full of fury only i thought i was capable of! lol! it reli must be terrible, i feel for u! thnaks for the warning!:eek:FunkyFeet:eek:Elite 5:2 #190 -

So today I have bought a Vax Power Reach Turbo Bagless Upright 1600 watt from Argos half price in the sale £49.99 and it seems great. Just realising how bad the Dyson was getting at picking up!

I've just bought this Vax model from Argos, but I'm really disappointed with it...taking it back when OH gets home as the attachment with the brushbar doesn't work properly, and the whole unit seems quite flimsy, plus it doesn;t pick up cotton and stuff, which is pretty poor.
Gave it the benefit of the doubt as I'm used to my Dyson (which seems to have lost suction a bit and is stressing me out as we have a baby due in 11 days and it's hindering my nesting..) but I'm really disappointed on the whole.
How are you finding yours? I'm tempted now to get another Dyson, even though we're skint.... It's such a pain as I really want to find the perfect one but I always seem to end up creeping back to Dyson, despite having problems with split tubes so often with them.

Yes, I've been all the way through the fault diagnosis bit of the Dyson website including cleaning the filter, but to no avail.
I did email them over a month ago but received no response, so I've emailed them again today to see if they have any suggestions.
Just spoken to my Health Visitor about Dysons (not specificially, in between the baby stuff!) and she said hers has given her problems too. It seems that very few folk are 100% happy with Dysons, and most folk end up having to get spares. The problem is, I'm put off trying others because the Vax was so bad, and I'm not sure what to do next. This is my 3rd Dyson and each time I have problems! Sigh.

Hi Luce
Firstly good luck with baby, my 4th baby is just 12weeks old! OK my vax is disappointing me now.
It has a very small cylinder thingy and I have to empty it at least twice whilst vacing downstairs (I do have a hairy rottie but even so). Each time you end up getting dirty hands as you have to clean the filter bit at the top too otherwise it sounds like air is escaping from the top and it doesnt pick up properly.
Also I cannot push it along the carpet when it is not switched on so have to carry it. The cord is not as long as my Dysons so have to keep unplugging it.
All in all it takes me longer to vacumn with the vax.0 -
I had one of the first Dysons ever made.I bought it in the Ideal Home Exhibition years ago.Never again,it was great for about 3 months, then the hose broke, then the wire came away from the handle. Then the motor packed up. I went and bought a Sebo, and its still going strong.
I look at the new Dysons now,and think they are just over priced "childrens looking toys"All plastic.
How Mr Dyson can get a New Years honour, for sacking all his Welsh workers and getting his products made in malaysia i never know !0 -

I agree that it's not been a good buy...the cylinder IS small and the cord short, too, I agree - I forgot to moan about that, lol! I had a rottie and I can sympathise with the dog hair situation, it must be a nightmare with the Vax, esp with four kids too! My daughter is 18months and drops crumbs everywhere constantly, so I'm always having to vac up, times that by 4 I think I'd end up with OCD! (Then again, til I started nesting I was past caring so much....!;) )
Are you sticking with it or taking it back? I'd heard about the Seba ones being mega, but the thing that puts me off is that you have to buy bags for them. They do look much nicer than the Dysons though. Are the bags available quite cheaply? I've never had a vac with bags, sorry if I sound stupidbut do you have to change them often?

How much for just one ?
I might be in the market for a new vac now , replaced a drive belt ( carpet sweeper roller ) today and 5 minutes later the motor got very noisy and cut out with a burning smell that set off my smoke alarms  the drive shaft was turning freely and hadn't seized .
I will strip it down tomorrow and check the brushes before looking at new models though.0 -
