Will not having a bathroom devalue my house?

I would very more than likely discount a property that had no bath unless it was fantastic. I like laying in the bath reading and the pages get a bit soggy in the shower :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. And, I agree with Pasturesnew, shaving is nigh on impossible in the shower!!

Another one in the "bath" camp! Not having a bath would be (and has been) a definite deal breaker for me, even though I don't have many! But sometimes after a long day at work sinking into a hot bath undoing all my knotty muscles is heaven! :) If this thread is an accurate representation of buyers in general, you'd reduce your market by about 60% by not having a bath! (which is really weird, given most people seem to not have baths very often!)

If the purpose of not having a bath is to make the bedrooms bigger, then a shower room + WC is usually pokily tiny.

That's okay for an en-suite where you're going directly to/from the bedroom but for the only shower room in the house the room needs to be bigger - you need floorspace to get dried and dressed in, more space for toiletries and towels in the room, etc.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

I'm sure my OH wouldn't be bothered, he only ever has a shower. But our 6 year old loves baths, and so do I, so we wouldn't buy a house without one, unless the price was knocked down enough for us to put one back in.

It restricts the market, but less than many people assume. My parents pulled out their bath, its just a liability for older people

We have a shower room downstairs and and a full bathroom upstairs, we moved in to the cottage in April this year, and I have never used the bath!

We are on a water meter, and I think baths are a waste of money, I prefer a shower and a house without a bath would not put me off at all - 1 less thing to clean (or in my case dust!)

I am single and wouldn't buy somewhere that didn't have a bath. You'd be reducing your market of potential buyers.

The same for me. I take showers more than I do baths. I do enjoy at least one long soak in the bath per week.

A couple with children will expect a bath.

Wow - thanks for all your replies! Such a great forum this.

You've made my mind up - I'm going to get the smallest bath I can and put a shower in it. My next question is obviously going to be where's a good place to buy a bathroom suite! ;-p
