How long are you planning to stay in your house? If you're not looking to move out any time soon, then feel free to do it for your own comfort/enjoyment and look at planning (and cover costs) to reinstate a bath if you put it on the market.
I love showers, but find a shower over a bath way more convenient, for hair washing, and cleaning large objects as well as washing myself!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I hardly ever take a bath these days but I like to have the option. My kids (7 and 5) still like baths.
I don't think it would devalue the house, just maybe limit the number of people interested when selling.0 -
not having a bath is like not having a fridge in summer.....you need one,,It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
I haven't had a bath for over 20 years. 100% showers for me.
OP, if you plan on staying a reasonable amount of time I wonder if it would it be possible to replace the bath with a shower and then, when wanting to sell, put the bath back again?0 -
It wouldn't bother me, I can't remember the last time I had a bath. But there is absolutely no way on earth my wife would even look at a house without a bath.
However, the effect on value is only relevant if you actually plan to sell the house.0 -
I really struggle to shave my legs (at all/properly) in a shower. It's so precarious and I'm in danger of slipping, or even head butting the door and falling out.... you can't fall out of a bath. In fact, having a shower makes me abandon leg shaving unless it's absolutely necessary/vital.0

I wouldnt go near it with no bath.
What about a P shaped bath - our bathroom is quite small, and we have fitted that in, along with a decent shower. It's not quite the same as a freestanding shower, but suitable for most.0 -
Hi. I have a very small bathroom at the moment. I dont have baths and so would rather a a little more floor space and replace the bath with a nice shower. The only thing stopping me is the thought that it may devalue the house when I come to sell it. The house is a small 2 bed mid terrace. It would suit a young family. What do you guys think, when I come to sell, would not having a bathroom affect the resale value?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

It depends on how long you think it'd be before you sell on. If you plan to stay there 5-10 years do it however you want. If less you need to think of resale, most people want the option.
I've got a bath with a really good shower over, and an extra tall/wide glass screen that can move back when I want a bath.0
