OK, if you have a Diploma can you then move up by doing shorthand later? Maybe by doing one of those intensive live in 24 hours a day courses . So what if no-one has ever done it before - you can prove them wrong :).

You're not doing well at the writing because you are so stressed about the exams. And you're probably not doing well at them because you're so stressed as well. Pour yourself a stiff drink and try to get some sleep. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

It sounds to me like there IS a way in if you can amass a body of work?

If you are massively behind with the articles would another week make much difference? Can you reach an agreement on deadlines after the exam rather than just getting more and more behind? Make a list of what needs doing and how best to tackle it - it may be worth saying you can't do some but will definitely deliver on the others?

You have your health, money in the bank and a roof over your head. Let;s concentrate on your blessings. And a massive HSthGoldStarsForYou_14053.gif for your A :)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I have pretty much said I am not doing anything until after the 19th ... we're waiting to hear back from various vendors for a product review and will go down and meet up with him week after the exam, which is always pretty productive.

Just trying to pick 8 stories for a portfolio now proved hard... starting to doubt everything.
And it's stupid as I got 11 things published by a US editor who also wrote me a work experience assessment over Wimbledon fortnight.
I KNOW I can write - just not at the moment, apparently.
What I can't do is squiggle for 2 minutes, even at 80wpm so... kinda.. well... I dunno.
Doesn't help I am wide awake around 5am and can't get back off to sleep so by the time I get to school I am tired already.

what makes it worse is you know immediately if you have missed loads. I honestly thought I got the first 20 mins down for the 80 ... and was horrified to see 7 errors in the first, and 7 in the second (only can have 8 in total)... I have tried everything.
I take shorthand to the news, programs, to music.
I do sentence drills - do one sentence, then go back and do two, then three and so on to build up speed and stamina...
Just when it comes to doing a proper transcription it all seems to go to doo-doo.

Maybe you are trying TOO hard. Breathe, relax and start again. You will get there. We are all rooting for you - we have faith - you should have too - you have done really well - don't let this cloud the things you have achieved already.

    Take care.

  • So sorry, Hurdler.

Have followed your journey mainly as a lurker I think (doing a similar complete career-change myself, in a different field) and have been inspired by what you have achieved - and I know it won't feel like this at the moment, but you HAVE achieved so much in what you've done.

Not sure if lurker can give dodgy hugs but am sure you need one so apologies in advance if it's inappropriate :grouphug:

I am sure there is nothing I can say that can make any difference to how you're feeling.

Hope you can somehow find a way round this shorthand problem to achieve what you want to; afraid I can't do shorthand so have no words of wisdom/useful tips to pass on. From what you've said though, to me it sounds like exam pressure rather than a failure to be able to do shorthand, so perhaps focus on that rather than the shorthand, if that makes sense?

Take care and I know you're not where you want to be but don't forget all that you have achieved in this incredible journey you're taking.

Looks like output is being cut by half in terms of articles which means a bit of a financial hit.

So might do a revised SOA. Think I now have no choice but to throw a heft of money at the mortgage to get it right down.

Because I am not earning as much for this month, I am going to use the next few days to get on top of my self assessment stuff, and sort out where I am with my mortgage.

Will put 6 months of rented-flat outgoings in a savings account associated with incoming rent.
Then will make sure I have 6 months worth of emergency money for my main outgoings and the rest goes towards the mortgage.

Feel very battered from all angles right now, and I still have ****ing shorthand looming.
