WHSmith 1p items

generally there is no way of knowing if some thing will go to 1p, the only things will become a penny (but wouldn't be able to say when) are diaries and calenders (all 2011 ones are now 1p as mid year ones are in), christmas gift ranges (most from last christmas have gone to 1p very recently).
Some items will do gradual reduection and then go to 1p others will just drop from full price.

I found the Me to You stationary set for 1p, but if you get one check it first -- one of mine was missing some things. Can't complain for 1p, but I was going to give one for a gift and keep one. Will have to see if there's any left later.

Also, I tried the Lego Torch (just plain Torch, not the dynamo torch), tag said 9.99, and that's what it rang up as.

Just realized the Me to You stationary set I got for 1p isn't the box in the second post, as that appears to be a box with a metal clasp and the cover picture is slightly different. What I found is a box filled with a pen, pencils, eraser, sharpener, cards and note paper. It's like this one at Amazon.

The bear on top is holding a big flowery heart. These are fairly big items and were stacked on the floor near the other similar branded items. The Item Model Number (just above the UPC barcode) is G0IS0328.

There is a clearence section in the Chester store.

I used to work there and got some right bargains because I used to put all the clearence stuff out...anything I wanted I could put behind the till and got it once I finished work.

But remember, not all clearence stores have the same items! They all vary

Yes, it is. But -- perhaps I am just a meanie -- I have never been too impressed by the prices.

When I was last in WH Smith buying a book token, I commented on the desolate state of the retail park and the SA told me that Tesco is taking over all the space at the end, where the Clarks shop etc are at present. She said Clarks was definitely moving to a spot nearer WH Smith though she wasn't sure what will be happening to the other shops. So it may well be a lease of life for the West One retail park. I've found a news item here and it says it will be ready in time for Christmas 2012.

Just incase anyone else is looking for Me To You items, most things with gold nd cream packaging (as opposed to the usual blue) they should be 1p as they are christmas gifting lines. The item I had in the picture is a small jewllery box

TY! I was thinking if I try buying a few things and some don't ring up at 1p, I could later return those items. But what happens when the SA looks at your receipt for the returned item and sees other purchases on there for 1p? Will they ignore it, or will it seem suspicious to them?

I don't suppose they can do anything about it, but they may wonder if you're up to something (thinking here of how some Boots glitch-hunters get followed around the store or treated rudely). If it's likely to cause problems, I may just purchase different items separately, and then don't have to even complete the purchase on one that rings up at more than 1p.

If it comes up a higher price you have 30 days to return it for a refund. If they see you have brought 1p items theres nothing they can do, you paid for the item so its legally yours.
If you think you could stand to do it then do your returns at peak times, the stores are so short staffed now days they wont have the staff to follow you and most of the staff wont care about the 1p items as they will want to try and get through the queues lol
Or just do it on a sunday, usually quiet and most of the staff tend to be newbies, not trained very well, or just dont care lol (I feel bad decribing staff like this but unfortunatly its the truth and I use to be included in this description when I did sundays many moons ago)
