I was 28 and had a mortgage of 28k on a one-bedroom flat. Seemed a huge sum at the time because salaries were so much lower then, and interest rates much higher. Remember making Christmas presents because couldn't afford to buy any. Could only get about 2.5 or 3 x salary, and even remember being refused by the Woolwich!0

18 with a £35k mortgage on a 3-bed house. Seemed like a massive amount at the time, compared to mortgages nowadays it's nothing!0
