My Dad sold us the land including double garage for 5K, repaid in monthly instalments to supplement his pension. We then got a mate to draw up plans for a three bed detached, tendered out for the new build and got it built (shell only, no decoration) for 16K. I was 24, hubby was 25. Have bought and sold since then (26 years ago) Dread to think what that would cost today.'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'

My first mortage was for £49,000 in 1988 at the tender age of 19. I was at Uni with a 2 month old baby and no one would rent to me except at a crazy premium.
So my Dad acted as guarantor and I took out a mortgage at much less than rental rates. Of course that fairly quickly changed but I weathered through the 15% days.Target 1: Pay off Alders by July 2007(done), Target 2: Clear overdraft by end of 2007

Aged 28 and 11 months. Just come to the end of my first year of a 109k mortgage on a 209k house. Should be worth a fair bit more now as Ive spent all year doing DIY, it was in an awful state! Just completing the kitchen update and Ive stopped for a brew! Then I guess I can sit and relax this summer and prune my roses and cut the grass. How old am I....0

We were 23 (me) and 27(hubby) when we bought the first house. It was a repossesion with bare wires stuck out all over and the windows were boarded up. We got it £13,750. Spent £3000 on rewire, dpc and refreshing it. Sold it 5 years later for £34,000. Bought this one for £68,000 and will have spent about £30,000 when done and it will then be worth about £160,000.The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0

18 - and they all said I was mad!
We bought our first flat for £27K (most we could borrow at the time) in 1995, bought a house in 2002 after selling the flat for £60K. I'm so glad we had that deposit or we'd still be at home with my mum or renting. Now we have a £60k mortgage and are looking to use the equity to buy a house in another area to become mortgage free.
