Hi my pc has stopped letting me into IE or firefox saying it is infected by w32/blaster.worm
it just started doing it all of a sudden
the security protection program has detected it and started to run a scan......
i have never seen this security protection program running before, its just popped up now.
it detects about 15 threats and then says i need to activate it to get rid of them...
seems liek i have to pay to activate it! (is this s scam?)
its running windows xp and hard wired to a router so not on a wireless network
its a fairly new pc, so im suprised with this msg
but now i cant get into windows at all. i have the windows cd. and since its a new pc i guess i could back up anything i need to a usb dongle......
what should i do?
any ideas please? thanks...

Scam
Have you got programmes like malwarebytes
Can you use another PC to download and save programmes
Start with malwarebytes, install, update, run a full scan, remove anything it finds

Might be a scam or could be geniune but in either case there is no need for you to pay :-) there are plenty of free programs about that will get rid of malware microsoft even do one - Microsoft Security Essentials its free0 -

You are running a 32 bit OS, download and save Hitman Pro to your Desktop(or USB drive if necessary).
For 64bit OSes, click here
Once saved, hold down the Ctrl key situated on the left of the keyboard whilst double clicking on the Hitman Pro .exe file in order to start the program. Then follow the simple instructions.

Only if you want to try system restore
This may reset things

Probably as quick, use a system rescue CD
http://www.avira.com/en/support-download-avira-antivir-rescue-system
Set the PC boot order to CD Rom then hard drive
This will run before windows loads so won't be affected by anything wrong with windows0
