Renault Laguna suspension collapse... has this happened to anybody else?

The Skoda Favorit and Felicia likewise have known problems with rusting spring cups. Need to keep an eye on them for rust and replace as needed. It's supposed to be checked as part of the MOT.
AFAIK top cups are easily and cheaply replaced, bottom cups means a new shock absorber is needed.
Preventative action could be attempted with something like waxoyl on the cups.0 -
My wife's Laguna was written off by a suspension collapse - although it wasn't hers, it was collapsed suspension on the Peugot 106 that hit her going round a bend. Both cars were written off but we understand that the Peugot driver's insurance wouldn't pay out for the damage on her car as it was caused by mechanical failure. Possibly a warning to get things checked out on your car if you suspect there is a problem.
I echo what was previously said about Laguna reliability. We owned it from new (May 2000 bought as a special offer on the old model), had it serviced per the manufacturers schedule at a local independent garage, and didn't have a single problem in 6 years and 75,000 miles other than the usual exhaust/battery stuff you expect.0 -
Still cant believe we traded in a VW Passat for the heap of junk that is a Laguna.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I am on my 4th Laguna and although my suspension coil spring also broke, whilst parked, I have had no major problems. The garage who repaired it pointed out that Fords do the same. The cost of repair is not great compared with other problems. I once owned a Citroen and the hydraulic pump seal leaked and took the aircon pump and alternator with it it. This was back in 2000 and I got a bill of £1090 then.0

I know usually Jeremy Clarkson talks rubbish - but when he said "cars can be either good or French", I did agree with himHappiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

The same thing has just happened to me in very similar circumstances. A long journey followed by the car standing overnight in the drive. The next morning when I tried to drive it, it made a horrible noise and shredded the tyre. I cannot think what might have happened if it had occurred the previous day on the motorway. I am very interested that you had virtually the same experience.

I've just had the rear offside suspension coil spring break on a 5 year old Laguna while driving gently over a speed hump in my village. Again, as has already been mentioned, it occurred to me what could have happened if I was travelling at speed. I'm astounded that a coil spring has broken after only 5 years of owning the car from new as it has been religiously serviced on time at a Renault dealer and has never had any MOT issues. The only thing that could possibly have indicated this was going to happen is that there has been a gentle creaking noise from the rear while going over speed humps. Silly me thought it was down to the general build quality of a Renault.0
