I parked in a retail park which allowed 3 hours free parking. Unfortunately I forgot the time and today received a letter from a company employed by Morrison's stating I had parked for 93 minutes over the 3 hours allowed and claiming I must pay £90 within 28 days or £70 if paid within 14 days. They state they have photographic evidence of when I arrived and left the car park.

Whilst I wouldn't normally park for so long on this occasion time simply just ran away with me. I did actually buy some groceries in Morrison's which is the thing that is annoying me the most.

I think the amount claimed is extortionate and having read all the comments made in these threads I believe that the "fine" is unenforceable. Although I am nervous I have decided NOT to pay - I am going to ignore the letter and hope for the best!!! Any advice or comments welcome. Thanks
Good, you are correct in what you're doing. :)

Flyboy 152 - I was shopping (I'm a woman)!! The carpark is in a retail park and my daughter was on the last few days of her holiday from Australia. She hadn't been here for four years and we enjoyed walking round the shops, buying last minute pressies for her to take back to the land of Oz, having lunch and then doing the week's shopping in Morrison's. We had a ball, spoilt by that demand letter received a few days later!!! We spent money in the shops and I am now being penalized for it - What a country we live in!!!!

Thanks Rev_Henry - I have my fingers very tightly crossed. It was all genuine and above board and I feel grieved that I should have to pay for the privilege of shopping and keeping these shops in business. :)
