I think it was something to do with the official cases they were selling, the problem didn't occur with the lighted ones just the plain leather ones, something to do with the metal clips that secured the kindle in the case causing short circuits
The cases without the light had a plastic coating on the metal hooks that hold the kindle in place in the cover which interfered with the electric circuit. The cases with the lights built in have metal hooks with no coating and have never caused a problem.
Amazon exchanged everyone who had problems with the unlit case to a case with a light at no extra cost. They stopped selling the unlit cases - not sure if they have resolved this now as I have always had a case with a light and had no problems with my kindle.0 -
My Kindle broke on holiday - lower half of the screen suddenly went all wonky, keeping a ghost of previous pages on screen. I called Amazon last Monday and explained the problem and they not only organised free return but also sent me out a new Kindle immediately - not even waiting to receive my broken one. The new one was delivered Tuesday!
Don't know why it broke - hadn't been dropped, I'd looked after it really well. It had just been on a plane and I wonder if it could have been the pressure in the plane that affected it.
Yes, it broke. But Amazon's customer service was beyond marvellous. As is my Kindle!0 -
Fingers crossed for you.
No joy - just received email saying unable to refund the difference.
They go on to say that that the Kindle qualifies for 30-day return & to contact them if I want to return them. My arguement is that they took 48hrs to give me an answer such that I couldn't return and re-order at the cheaper price as, surprise surprise, they put the price up after 24hrs. Purposeful delaying if you ask me while they looked at the pricing and raised it again! If only I could stop finding good bargains on this site, I would save a fortune! :rotfl:0 -

you can search for local stores stocking the kindles/accessories on this page
& this is what's showing on tesco direct, think i'm going for the cover with the light (which doesn't show on that listing page, but does show on the store search page - weird!).
