Went out today, even though the heavens opened, we took my nan out for dinner an dpopped to the undercover shopping centre. Poor nan is 86 and stuggles to walk but love sto go out. My mum is on hols and normally cooks for her so we took her for a carvery at tobys. it was yummy, poor staff it was so busy becaus eof the rain i did feel for them.
Unfortunately had a few bad turns while we were out and now part of my hed is numb. Hubby and i decided tonight as my appointment with the neurologist isnt until july that we are going to go private and find out what is going on, Think it could be epilepsy as i started to feel ill in primarni and lights were well bright.
Hope tomorrow i will be able to get an appointment this week.
Wasa a bit norty today and bought myself some shoes that i saw a month ago and told myself i didnt need them. Today i decided i did! Never mind havent bought anything in ages!!!
Not much on the house front as i dont think all this rain is helping house hunters. Hopefully someone will come through soon as have seen a few we like.

Hope you all ok lots of love xxxxx

    Hi JellyBean,

Just wanted to post a quick reply, with the symptoms your describing, I think you should get your other half to take you to A&E to get this checked out, just in case.

I don't want to worry you (as I'm not a medical expert), but it could be that your having TIA's, (Transient ischemic attack's). In any case if you go to A&E they should do a much more thorough check including scan's if needed. I'd also say to them that you have collapsed on more than one occasion (don't say you've had a few funny turns as they wont' take that as seriously). Also take an overnight bag just in case.

My wife had some TIA's, but didn't get them checked out and is wishing she had now.

I hope I haven't worried you too much, just better to be safe than sorry :o.

    Regards

    MadMax.
  • Ty for your thoughts as mine and husbands are the same. I got taken to hospital the day i collpapsed but had to wait ages in the orridor as no beds. i even had a turn whilst int he wheelchair!!!
I told them my head hurt and explained that i had gone numb on one side but they didnt want too know.
i also ha d an appointment earlier in the week with a reumatologist because of bad neck and my symptons were bad there and a high blood pressure reading and they diagnosed fibromyalgia. Following week i collpase and then get diagnosed with vertigo 3 days later and keep trying to tell them about this feeling in my head. Symptons bit better today.
Have made an appointment with neurologist in 3 weeks as its the earliest i could get. Docs dont seem to be taking it seriously seems like you would have to have a stroke. Had a turn on sat while cutting someones hair didnt know he was a paramedic and he told me to go and kick a fuss to, but i have no physical symptons unless i have a turn. Hubby had to physically drag me out of a shop yesterday as left side went funny and i could hardly walk, it took hour and half for it to stop.
Just feel stupid as dont seem to be bale to get through to the docs, id o wonder if they think im a hyperchondriac!!!!!!

  • Hi Jellybean,

Sorry to hear your having such a hard time with the Doctors. Just a thought, but perhaps it might be worth ringing the Stroke Association or Headway? They may be able to offer some advice.

    Best wishes
  • Good advice Mandrew. Jelly what about your GP? Can they not help?

    Hi Jellybean,

    Hope your ok?

I hope you don't think I'm interfering, but after your last email, I emailed stroke association and asked them to look at your posts on the forum to see if they could offer any advice. They responded with the following email, I hope it's ok with moderators for me to post this (I had to remove a 'w' from the links)?

    Our Ref: 145353

    Dear Mandrew

Thank you for your recent email regarding a forum users post.

You explained in your email that you had seen a post on a bulletin board
that you recently visited, where the user seemed to be showing signs of
TIA's and you wondered if we could offer some advice to the individual
as she seems to be having no luck with her doctor.

This is not something that we usually get asked and as an organisation
we are unable to post on external bulletin or forums. After reading the
post,I have however listed some information below that perhaps you could post on bulletin for the lady, which hopefully will be useful for her.

A TIA is a temporary stroke which also occurs when the brain is
temporarily starved of its oxygen and nutrients. With a TIA, a person
can experience the following; weakness down one side of the body,
blurred vision, slurred speech, numbness, pins and needles and so on.
Nausea, vomiting or confusion can sometimes accompany these symptoms.

The symptoms of a TIA do not last for any longer than twenty-four hours, but if left untreated a TIA can lead to a larger stroke or further
health problems, which is why the symptoms should never be ignored.
After a TIA or a stroke, many people are prescribed drugs to reduce the risk of clots forming in their blood and blocking their carotid arteries
or other blood vessels in their brain.

Aspirin is the drug most commonly used to stop the platelets (the basic building blocks of blood clots) from sticking together. I have included the link to our factsheet 'Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)' for more information:

    Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA)
    ww.stroke.org.uk/sites/default/files/Transient%20ischaemic%20attack%20(TIA).pdf

The FAST test may help determine if a person is experiencing a stroke
and help recognise the signs of stroke or TIA (sometimes called
    mini-stroke) and is as follows:

Facial weakness - can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped? Arm weakness - can the person raise both arms?
Speech problems - can the person speak clearly and understand what you say? Time to call 999

These are not the only possible signs of stroke. For example, as stroke
affects the brain, it may cause sudden problems with movement, sensation or cognitive processes. However, this test will pick up 90% of strokes according to Dr Tony Rudd, stroke program director at the Royal College of Physicians' Clinical Effectiveness and Evaluation Unit. The FAST message is also the focus of the Department of Health campaign which was launched in February 2010 and for consistency this is why as an Association also reflect the FAST message.

I have listed the links to some other publications that we produce that
    she may find helpful also:

    Balance problems after stroke

    20stroke.pdf

    Epilepsy after stroke

    Taste changes after stroke

discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
