sometimes I don't understand

I was just researching a category on ebay that I have used before and came across one of my buyers who has resold an item they bought from me.

The item was purchased a couple of months ago for £18, it was sold with my photos and by the buyer who apparently 'found it in her granny's attic' , final price £6. Can't quite see what all that was about .

Interestingly I had 4 or 5 buyers in on the auction (I started it art £2.99) and sold it with some described damage. My buyer resold it as perfect.

Looking at the buyers history she appears to buy a lot of things and imemdiately resell them as stuff she has found in her nan's house. I can't see the point though if you are going to make a loss on them all, unless I'm missing something obvious.

Maybe she was hoping to make a profit which in that case failed.

That was my first thought until I checked further and realised she keeps buying stuff and relisting it and it is about 50/50 as to whether she even breaks even..and that isn't even allowing for postage.

Still looking at it now, her stars are poor, 4.6 for p and p and 4.7 for despatch so she is unlikely to achieve the best prices anyway.

I suppose it will remain one of those mysteries

I am never amazed at the amount of sellers, particularly 'big' ones that fail to realise they do so at a loss, it isn't rocket science.

I don't think it would actually work, but how about money laundering? Buys goods on a credit card and sell with funds being added to bank account.

As I say, technically I don't think that would work, but then again it does not look like they're the most intelligent person in the world.

Actually if she has a 0% credit card for purchases but needs cash, that would be one way to do it. Not a very MSE way, since sooner or later she will have to pay the credit card off, and in the meantime she is losing money in the way she is turning the stuff over, but it would be a way of getting cash from the card, I suppose.

Is it something that you sold some time ago or is it not possible she's just got bored with it and wants to shift it on, or that she needs the cash and wants to sell

Sometimes Occam's Razor (the simplest explanation is the best) can apply.

I do agree, it sounds like there's going to be a disappointed buyer at the end of it (and I suspect her using your pictures makes you a little miffed), but in general I would think there are a lot of perfectly genuine reasons to sell something you've only recently bought on eBay.

The turnover looks quite quick, the sale in the last couple of weeks was a relist as it failed to sell the first time she listed it, so although I am only guessing, she got the item, listed it a few days later for 10 days and it failed to sell. She then waited for the last Free listing day and relisted it again and it sold then.

If this was a small item then I would probably go with the money laundering theory, but whilst I don't want to say what this was, it is large, heavy and glass and weighed almost 2kg when packed.

The only thing that I have noticed is that she changed my title completely and with a few new keywords has presented the item differently. I sell collectables and antiques whereas she is marketing most of her goods to a newer shabby chic/interior design sort of market.

Just to add, maybe she thinks she can get a better price by selling your item to a different sort of niche customer by presenting the item differently?

If the item is what I think it is, then it could appeal to several very different sorts of buyers and could be sold using a variety of different terms, depending on what kind of buyer you want to find the item.

Even so, if this is the case, she is probably not doing a very good job or has overestimated the appeal of this item to the market she is hoping it will be attractive to.

Sounds abit OCD to me, maybe she's just addicted to buying and selling.
