Maybe she set her starting price too high? I find that if I start an auction at 99p a lot of bidders think it is a bargain even if it ends up going for a lot more than an identical one that is for sale as BIN. Some people are strange...

As said it may have had a use, I have bought things on ebay with the intention of re-selling when I am done with them (sometimes turning a small profit buying cheap on auction and selling using BIN's)

As it is I am helping a school witha production of wizard of oz right now and I know a few props have been bought on ebay and will be sold straight after.
Be careful how that appears - might be a good idea to separate buying and selling IDs if you do this as you never know who's snooping and although that sounds like the definition of "good faith" outsiders may not know your circumstances and get a bit "sus".

I agree though, this is what most of my selling is like. Buy a DVD on eBay or Amazon, then sell it later on when I've watched it. I rarely do it with TV box sets (since I find they have re-watch value, particularly when I'm report-reading for my mother and need some background noise that I don't have to concentrate on watching it for the first time) but with films it was an economical way of watching them in the days before I got my Lovefilm account.

a spelling mistake wouldn't make a great deal of difference
    _I_ know that.

But the people who buy into this pyramid-style scheme don't. They think that they're buying this software which finds mis-spelt items that they can sell for a profit. When really the only thing they can do for a profit is sell on the mis-spelt item software.

True it could be viewed as trading but in many cases there is a good time period between buying and selling and I do go with the idea if I am doing nothing wrong I have nothing to worry about.

Much like you say with DVDs I have done it mostly with video games, in my case I buy on auctions with no pictures (as they go cheaper), play it a few weeks/months (until bored) and sell it with a healthly BIN price and a nice picture.

As said in this case it seems the buyer is trying to re-sell to a different market (and doing badly). Is the tax man interest if they are trading badly and making a loss.

Yes - perhaps not the taxman, but because they are still misrepresenting themselves to consumers as a private seller, they still have to adhere to important laws and eBay policies. In the case of the Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading laws, it's actually a criminal offence to break them. (Probably wouldn't end in prison but might end in a fine or something like that.)

It is very difficult for me to explain what I mean, without giving away what I sold.

I'm terrible at explanations but I could accept a miss spelt 'tool' if for instance I sold a Wedgwood jug as Wedgewood. However say this item was a glass salt dip and I sold it as 1920s pressed glass salt dip. Then the buyer has remarketed it (quite cleverly) as say 'shabby chic vintage cut glass tea light candle holder'

So neither of us mis spelt anything, I am selling it as what it is, but buyer is re selling it as a fashion/ interior decorator piece. When we had free sub titles I did actually experiment with putting in some interior design terms myself and It might have made a difference in end price, but it is difficult really to say.

She has brought at least two items from me, and sold both at a loss but she has bought from others and made a few pence profit on occasions. I would think overall she is still making a loss, but maybe she is looking at a longer plan for this?
