I have a BT 2100 router for internet connection. My wife's laptop recently had a new hard disc installed and now she cannot connect to the internet even though there appears to be a strong signal to her machine. Is there any reason why this might be. To ensure I have a happy new year can anyone help?
Many thanks.

Log into the router using 192.168.1.1 and then go to the Wireless page and click on the Encryption page where you will see the Pre-Shared key. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

To be honest I do not know. (Was done by a third party). Will it make any difference that this will be just xp without sp2? as it was a new install?Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

You need to go to SP2 if WPA encryption has been setup on the router. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Cant even seem to get a connection there. Is there a way to d/l sp2 onto an external drive then install it on the laptop? S/p2 does not seem to be to d/l and save onto a machine which already has it.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

if the router is working, plug the laptop in with an ethernet connection, and do start, run, cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
hopefully, you should then be able to surf?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
