Ive reached 52.7 mph on the bank from Burdon lane, Warden law(highest road in Sunderland) down to Rhyope, thats a national speed limit road though, so I was well under the limit for motorised vehicles.
Well in the interests of science, I think you should give it a go down houghton cut, now I recon you could break the 50 limit there!!

You can however re calibrate them yourself, something which you do when you buy the computer, by entering the rolling distance of the circumference of the wheel. By riding on a measured stretch of road or track, you can get within a few yards of a correct answer, which is far more accurate than a car (around 5% to 10% speedo error).

I know, but it's the legal status that's the issue.

On the other question I've hit 79kph (49mph) in a 40mph zone in Brighton. The highest my speedo's ever recorded was 147kph which comes in at 91mph. This was during the bike leg of a triathlon, and wildly inaccurate! I was probably at 45mph tops.

On the flat I've been close to 40mph in a road race (closed circuit)
    It's only numbers.
