My turkey and beef wouldn't fit in the oven together, fortunately I had enough time to cook both seperately, I didn't make enough gravy and I will be recycling roast potatoes till new year but apart from that it all went well.

Hope your DD and DH are OK with their injuries!

I let the water run dry on the swede and carrot mash, so we never had that and dropped the turkey crown into the sink while I was trying to fork it out of the dish!! xxx

Chicken didn't cook, not even in the three hours it said on the box, so we had to substitute it for singular chicken breasts and now have a full chicken [finally ;)] cooked to devour ;)

My mum pigged out on breakfast and calmly announced at lunchtime that she couldn't possibly eat a thing. We had to plate up her Christmas dinner for her to take home, and she will be eating it on her own today.
It was hardly worth her coming tbh, I collected her at 9, she fell asleep after breakfast, snortled for most of the day, watched first episode of East Enders, and then wanted to go home!
My hubby got quietly sozzled, as I had to remain abstinent in order to transport mum home, he took full advantage and drank my share too. He went into the loo, knocked a shelf off the wall into the washbasin, which smashed.

My sister is on holiday and my parents are dog/housesitting for her. We were all out there for dinner (my sister knew - wasn't like we were invading her house without her knowledge ). Mum told dad to take the turkey out of the oven to see if it was ready. Dad took the carving knife to it and he couldn't cut it. It was burnt! The skin had to be peeled off like paper and the flesh was brown. Mum started to panic - thought she was going to hyperventilate, and all I could do was laugh. Mum was..'what we going to do..what we going to do!!' I told her not to panic, but my sister's in-laws were coming in 20 minutes lol.

Dad turned it upside down and we got plenty of meat that was fine. No-one got a drumstick because they were ruined. A wee bit drier than usual but it didn't taste burnt or anything. Dinner turned out lovely. They've cooked over 40 Christmas turkeys together and never burnt one. Turned out my sister's oven is on the frizz.

I find the cooking times listed on the box/wrappers of turkey and chicken so misleading. We had a 2kg Turkey crown from Somerfields and the cooking time said 2 to 2.5 hours at gas mark 5. From previous experience this is "half" the amount of time required, we started ours at 11, and pulled it out of the oven at 4:45 (for a half hour rest) on gas mark 4, it was done to perfection :T
