Nothing too bad really, woke up to a present from the puppy, wrapped it up to throw away and a hole appeared in the gloves and paper so I ended up with poopy hands at 5am. Forgot to put some of the kids presents out, so they got some later in the day. Dinner went OK ish apart from me stupidly trying to remove blades from electric knife when still switched on and got my finger when I caught the button. DS fell 'up' the stairs and has an egg shaped lump on his head. Yorkishires rose too much again and caught the top of the oven. DP took little DS for some quiet time upstairs to watch a film and fell asleep, come lunch time he couldn't wake up so had dinner later.

    Think that's it.

Oh forgot I had to buy new storage tubs today as I cracked 4 yesterday, oops.
One day I might be more organised...........

I find the cooking times listed on the box/wrappers of turkey and chicken so misleading. We had a 2kg Turkey crown from Somerfields and the cooking time said 2 to 2.5 hours at gas mark 5. From previous experience this is "half" the amount of time required, we started ours at 11, and pulled it out of the oven at 4:45 (for a half hour rest) on gas mark 4, it was done to perfection :T

    You need a new cooker!

Dropping the turkey is nothing - when I moved into a new house years ago just before Xmas the Xmas dinner was the 1st time the oven had really been used. Turkey cooked to perfection, back in for last 5 minutes to brown - when I pulled out the tray the whole oven ended up coming with it & ended up on kitchen floor!!!!! Which was nice........ Roast potatoes were extra crunchy that year.....

Off to see builder after Xmas - carpenter fits the units. Electrician fits the oven - but doesn't fit the screws as that's the carpenters job. Carpenter doesn't fit the screws as that's the electricians job, etc etc.....

Fine yesterday, although ex-MIL's oven broke so they had to have things you could cook on the hob.
Got up this morning, kettle blew up and toaster burnt out! My mum fell in the bathroom, bashed her bum and hit her head on the heated towel rail. She'd locked the door too, all we heard was a bang!. OH thought he would have to kick the door in, but after a lot of graoning, she maaged to open the door!
Hope tonight is a bit better!

    I've been Money Tipped!
No nightmares yesterday apart from the microwave blowing up but my two sons did start a fight at the Christingle service in church on Xmas Eve as they wanted the jelly babies from each others Christingle ... and all during 'Away in A Manger', it was quite a feat to keep them apart!

  • Lol, oh im sorry , but this thread is funny lol.
I think we all must of had some sort of mini disaster yesterday.

We had a couple of vomiting mishaps lol. I went to my mums for dinner, and she was feeding 10 of us. The dining table faces big glass patio doors onto the garden. We were all happily eating away, and the dog goes into the garden and vomits for about 5 minutes in full view of us. Then about 10 minutes later my son, who is full of cold, coughs so much that he pukes all of his dinner back onto his plate, needless to say we couldnt face eating anymore lol.
  • We had a dreadful day yesterday  ,I came down badly with the sickness bug in the middle of the night (christmas eve),woke up yesterday, spewing and the 'other end' my family were due to come for dinner,I phoned them to ask if they could cook instead,as I couldn't lift my head from the pillow, mum got very angry,we had a blazing row,DH decided he would cook for him and the kids and sod my family :o I told him to cook the turkey for 3.75 hrs min to 4.75 hrs max,he misheard and cooked it for 5.75hrs   basically it burst when he tried to carve it.he couldn't be bothered with the veg as all his time was spent on the meat,so they had meat and salad
We had a better day today,I feel much better and managed to cook the full works, which if I do say so myself, was wonderful :D
Happy new year,it can't get any worse!

  • After reading everyone else's horror stories I had a pretty good day!

Only mishap I had was slicing my finger open on Christmas Eve trying to open the packet my new carving knife came in.

Thankfully, casualty was pretty quiet so after a quick tetanus shot and a few steristrips I was back home in time to prepare for Christmas day. It's amazing how many times I've managed to bash my finger on things since cutting it though!!

Thankfully our house was accident free, but this thread did remind me of my grand mother......when she was small the local baker on the corner used to cook joints in his baking oven, coal fired, he kept it in all the time, so Sunday he cooked for the street. Grandma's turn to collect the huge beef joint for christmas dinner......coming out of the bakehouse she tripped, dropped the tin and the beef rolled in the chicken !!!! !!!! in the yard......grandmother in tears........baker picked up the joint, washed it under the pump in the yard and put it back in the tin........family ate the beef non the wiser..apparently it was years before she owned up to what had happened..................
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.
  • No catastrophes this year but when DS3 was born Dec 20 several years ago OH "helped" with xmas lunch and put turkey etc in oven. All afternoon i kept smelling a funny smell. When we carved the turkey he had cooked it complete with plastic bag of giblets inside. Still ate it though:rolleyes:

He also managed to turn the xmas pudding into something resembling a piece of coal by microwaving it for 30 minutes:eek:

needless to say that was the one and only time he was allowed to "help".:D
