The road is inhabited by older people (60+) who have all lived there for 30+ years. I think they've settled into a comfortable self-assurance that comes with living on a "good" road. We're at least 20 years younger than most of them, and I worry that they're concerned that we'll be destabilising the status quo. It could also be that they're all doing a bit of "posturing" in order to confirm the pecking order as it were
I personally think they are right!
My mum has lived in her road for 42yrs she never says a thing to anyone, BUT behind closed doors she rants and raves `i`ve been here 42 yrs and they have been here 5 mins and think they own the place:rotfl:This could be for literally parking bad or simply not being polite!!
Hopefully once they see your a nice soul they will be fine!DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I'd wind them up and tell them I'm having a single-storey extension with roof terrace and a full loft conversion + side extension over garage so my 6 teenage kids can move-in.Never Knowingly Understood.

We had a leaflet last week and as I understand it all private sewers are going to become maintained by the local water company. The cost of maintenance will become part of everyone's bills. That's very useful - many thanks. As far as I understand it, we're the last on a spur of 3 houses onto the main drain - we're going to be always partly financially responsible!
ETA - for MSE purposes: one think I did find out is that if you have a "soak away" for rainwater as opposed to draining to sewer, you can request a rebate off your water bill

And don't forget the hot tub in the garden with football-pitch strength flood lights for those all night parties

My mum is one of 6 who share a drain and the cost is spread between them all (southeat) SO Jim your right with that one.

yup Jim, many thanks - and SM: I'll have a look into insurance. The houses on our side of the street are at a lower level than the main drain, so foul water has to go slightly up hill & round a 90 degree bend - I can see insurance being quite useful!"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
If your house is built prior to 1935 then your local water company is responsible for your drains. They will try to argue the fact, but stick to your guns and they will back down.Never Knowingly Understood.

Unfortunately not - built 20 years later than that, very useful to know none the less!"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
Parking on verge or your garden?
Which is it?
You might have to buy a case of wine and apologise - even if you think you've done nothing wrong you have disturbed the tranquility.0 -
