......are apparently us !
Completed on our home a couple of weeks ago and have not moved in as yet - still stripping wallpaper/getting bathroom plumbed in/sorting out death-trap electrics.
In the space of the last week, we have had 3 sets of our near neighbours come around to moan at us:
1. to complain that our visitors/contractors are parking opposite the end of their drive
2. to blame us that our shared drain is blocked. Accused us of putting wallpaper down the loo
3. asking us if we're going to extend, and if it was going to be a double height extension - they said that they wouldn't like that as they like "to sit in their conservatory"
tarnished our excitement at moving to our first home together a bit really

Oh Gawd!
I wouldn`t worry at all!
Most people seem to be so anal about car parking etc and it seems to be a huge issue everywhere!
I dont drive or own a car so i LOL when i hear rows outside! Maybe just mention to contracters in future try and park where you wont be blocking or causing a `bad driver` issues getting in and out of their drive.
Blocked drain im sure you havent been blocking it up with wallpaper:rotfl:if it gets checked then that will show your not to blame for the blockage.
Regarding the extension i`m guessing they have assumed your extending? They sound quite nosey

1. yes. our visitors parked on our grass verge, our garden -which happens to be opposite the end of their drive. no parking restrictions to the road at all
2. absolutely not. We're not people who do that. only stuff that goes down the loo is the stuff that should be going down there!
3. ground floor extension planned definitely. Houses are detached with a good few meters between them. We wouldn't want to be overlooked, so fully appreciate their point of view - it was just the confrontational way it was said"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
It is amazing what people think they can tell you to do in/with your own property. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0

thanks for the support - I would like to think I'm a considerate person generally, so get quite upset when the implication is that I'm not ! Even before point 1 came up, we had asked our friends & family to park so that they "block us in" on our driveway, rather than opposite this guys driveway. It's only been the few contractors (and a ditzy SIL who always forgets) that haven't done this.
Re: blocked drain - why on earth would they think that we would put wallpaper down the loo?!! The amount of curtain twitching that goes on in that road, you would have thought that they would have spotted two cars being loaded up with bin bags full of the stuff!"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -

As I understand the convention on who is responsible to unblock a shared drain, I believe anybody behind the blockage has to share the cost of remedy. In Wales on October 1st shared drains are going back into the ownership of the local water company.

The road is inhabited by older people (60+) who have all lived there for 30+ years. I think they've settled into a comfortable self-assurance that comes with living on a "good" road. We're at least 20 years younger than most of them, and I worry that they're concerned that we'll be destabilising the status quo. It could also be that they're all doing a bit of "posturing" in order to confirm the pecking order as it were"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -

That's very useful - many thanks. As far as I understand it, we're the last on a spur of 3 houses onto the main drain - we're going to be always partly financially responsible!
ETA - for MSE purposes: one thing I did find out is that if you have a "soak away" for rainwater as opposed to draining to sewer, you can request a rebate off your water bill
