  • 1. Save up for stuff. Try to avoid expensive HP agreements, especially for things like 'pooters and TV's that are obsolete before you get them home.

    2. Know your limits. If you have to buy something, go to the bank and draw out the cash, then it feels like you're actually parting with money when you hand it over in the shop. Credit cards are just that, plastic cards - they don't feel or look like money.

    3. Make your own lunch. I used to buy sarnies and lunch stuff at lunchtime and probably did about £25 a week. Over a year that could mean I've spent £1300 on sandwiches!!!! Now a loaf that lasts a week is a quid, plus fillings etc means I've cut my spend to around £6. Bargain. And you know what you're eating too.

    4. Compare the prices of stuff on the shelf edges. Using the price-per-gram (or whatever) you can work out the relative cost of one product against its' competitor when they're in different sizes, e.g. Whiskers Pouches are up to 3 times the prices of Whiskers Tins, gram-for-gram. The food's the same, your cat won't care and you're better off.

    5. Join this board, it will save you a fortune!

Cheers folks, raise a glass to New Year Moneysaving!

Never trust Phil Tuffnell to organise your loan.
  • If you really need to buy something always compare online prices first, they are often cheaper!

Buy one xmas present a month so you don't have loads to buy in December.

    Check your bank online everyday.
