parking on grass verge?

I have just got a parking ticket whilst parking on the grass verge outside my house,
I live on a wide road with single yellow lines with restriction of 1 hour a day. However I was not actually on the road I was on the grass verge which is very wide and generally used by all the residents as our driveways are so steep and difficult to use. I was not actually on the road at all. Also the hour restriction is different each side ot the road, reading noon to 1pm on one side and 1 to 2pm on the other, I was reading the one opposite my drive on the other side of the road, was I wrong to do that?
Have I any chance at appeal? Thanks for reading.

As the road probably classed as part of the highway then the ticket issue would be valid.
Worth v Brooks (1959) it was considered that a "road stretches to the boundary fences or grass verges adjacent to it, including any pavements."
and as you are adjacent to the yellow lines then those rules applyThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

No not in London, in the home counties.0

I got a ticket for doing the same thing as you. I managed to get it over turned by taking photos of all the breaks in the lines - thus proving the line was unenforceable.
Get your digital camera out - it doesnt matter how far away the break is as long as it is the same continuous length of the line. I was not aware (at the time) that it was wrong to do that either. I won't be doing it again0 -

There may be grounds for appeal but you need to be aware that a restriction like yellow lines applies from wall-to-wall (property edge to edge), so the pavement and verge is also restricted. Having said that, if you ALWAYS park there then maybe the Council has chosen not to restrict parking on the verge there and maybe a new CEO was unaware or wanted to get his numbers up. I can think of a wide road round here like that where no PCNs are ever issued.
Post a picture of your PCN front and back, on pepipoo forums to see if there are grounds for appeal with the PCN. Start a new topic here after registering and resing the FAQs and stickies and some threads, to get the hang of the forum:

Correct, a lot of people get caught out this way on the highway. They think that if they park on the pavement the yellow lines don't apply, they apply to what is known as the building line has you said pavements, boundary walls, fences etc. A good thing to remember is street lighting is usually placed as close to the building as possible.0 -
It makes my blood boil when I see cars parked on grass verges outside their houses churning up the grass. It's bl**dy selfish!0

I will choose to ignore the above post!0

It is very self-centred to park on the grass verge. That is not what it is there for and will be destroyed by this. You need to learn better how to use your drive.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
