  • yes although i do like the time off work
  • I hate the whole b****y thing, starting from the works party when the same people get legless every year. Then I finish my shopping - but then have to do everyone else's for them. And wrap them!!!!

Was so glad to see the back of it - have spent most of today decorating!!!!! Only time I ever get to do any, lovely work give us an extra 3 days off. Starting on kitchen tomorrow......

Hubby thinks Christmas should only be held once every 4 years!

That's far too frequent, how about every 400 years?

I just think the whole thing is completely over rated and hyped up - I was thinking of going away for Christmas this year but I was talked out of it, because of family expectations, but next year is a different story!

It's nice to have some time off work, but if I had the choice I'd take the time off at a different time of the year when we could do something more interesting than gorging our faces and watching crap TV.

  • Yep I agree - I love the idea of Christmas but in practice, I find the whole thing too stressful. The pressure builds up before xmas- getting gifts, budgetting for food etc , it makes your expectations high and then the actual day is over in a flash. Add to this the fact that either set of in laws want us around - not being ungrateful - but with young kids and after all the preparing and decorating house you do want your own xmas at home- someone has always got their nose out of joint which spoils our xmas as well as theirs. It is a lot of hard work and come Boxing Day, i'm always grumpy!!

Still, I do believe in Santa and just wish that he would slip in a ready made unfoldable Christmas in my stocking for next year - hmmmm now wheres the address for Santa .......

I've found the older I am getting, the more chilled I am about Christmas. My Christmas Day is going to be this coming Friday, as this is when all our family are actually coming home together. 13 adults, and 6 kids to cook for and they are all staying overnight. Its the first time we have managed to get together in one place for the last 3 years, so I am really looking forward to it.
Must remember to take the turkey out of the freezer tomorrow night.

I am like furndire. I used to feel rushed and harrassed. Now I am laid back and just let it happen. I concentrate on being with people, not the quality and quantity of food, decorations, pressies etc. I like simplicity in general and am trying to simplify all of my life. I spend it with friends as family all too far way.

Yep! I've had the most chilled out Crimbo ever but you still pick up on the whole panic vibe from other people. Suppose I'm lucky in that I work from home so I can do my shopping etc pretty much when I want (i.e. outside lunch hours, late night shopping etc). If it wasn't for my daughter and kids visiting from Dorset tomorrow, everything would have been taken down by now! My 'christmas tree' was the easiest I've ever done, cost me nowt, and looked very bloody pretty if I say so myself! some people I know paid 30 quid ! Can't wait to get back to normal meself!

  • I have to agree with most of the previous posters. I am known for not liking Christmas in its current form anyway but this year I said "sod it" I bought not a single pressie, sent no cards, did no deccies, no tree. But to my relief most of my family agreed with me and did not make me feel bad with pressies and cards ect. We had a meet up today and had a light "Sunday Tea" and cought up with the news, had a laugh - Then went home. Another year over.

Most of us actually said it was better this way and the only induldence was to the little ones that still believe in Santa. To those we had a "Family Dinner" were we all bought a little to contribute to the feast, that way no one had to carry all the weight and the day went well.

From henceforth Christmas will be considered a holiday not a hinderance.
