I swear you lot are winding me up. I have just checked my credit card and bank statements and there is nothing there that suggests that this pre-payment has ever been taken.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

    Please read the postings carefully.

It does not appear on credit card and bank statements.

It appears on your online statement if you check pending payments from about 10 secs after the transaction. It then disappears within a couple of days.

The reason people are starting to see it is because they now check their accounts online.

But when did you last buy fuel using your card at a self serve pump?

I bought petrol on Wed, I had a £1 transaction under pending transactions on Wed night, by Thursday it was gone, replaced by the the charge for petrol.

Your just not quick enough in checking your statement.

Try authorising your card in the pump then checking your statement online before pumping fuel.

You will either then see the pre authorising amount or go boom.

I will say that I have seen it too- most recently in Oxfordshire.

Asda and now Morrisons have started doing it round here. It allows 24hr or unattended operation, in fact the ASDA at Stafford has no staff at all, everything is pay at the pump.

The other benefit to forecourt operators besides reduced staffing costs is that it stops driving off without payment which is quite prevalent round here. Some people have stolen/cloned/false plates specifically to steal fuel.

Doesn't stop the thousands of Eastern Europeans (mainly Hungarians) using debit cards to take £99 of fuel on dodgy cards and sell it from the nearest layby to truckers.

to clarify, it does not show up as a transaction on your statement, it will be included in your 'pending' or deducted from your 'cleared balance'. you'd never normally spot it as it would be included with your regular transactions (ie, the purchase of petrol). The only way to see it is to work out exactly what you have spent and it will be the £1 left over.

Tip if you are skint - if you have £2 in your account before pay day, you could put £50 quid in and it would authorise the £1 and the £50 would come out the next day, after you have been paid.

however, if you have less than £1, it wouldn't let you as it wouldn't be able to pre-authorise the quid.

I don't think it appears as such in the online statement - though cards/banks may vary.

Where you spot it is by the 'available balance' being less than you think it should be, or possibly as a 'pending transaction'

But "pending transactions" don't show on the itemised statement, which is kind of the point to this thread. It has been said that the transaction shows up on ones statement, as a separate transaction.
