I am selling things for my daughter as she can not get a pay pal account due to her bank card. She does not live with me. I asked on Ebay and they said if she had her own ebay account but we had the same paypal account if she messed up it would affect my ebay account........if that makes any sense. So instead of risking my account I said I would list things for her and give her the money after fees etc........can you get in trouble for that?
It depends if your daughter is buying or making items to sell or if she is selling her own possessions.

If she has bought them to sell on at a profit, you can't but she can and by association, you're going to get in a whole load of grief if HMRC take notice if they decide to audit you. Audits are so bad, companies offer insurance against the cost of it.

Charity shops - buying from them gives them money !! There is an emergency in Africa with millions starving - this is a very good time to buy from Oxfam. Or an at home charity for that matter.

The prices charity shops charge around here, you'd make a loss. I shop on ebay cos /i can't afford charity shops any more.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Does your integrity extend to registering with HMRC as self employed?
As soon as you buy something to sell at a profit, even if its bought from a car boot sale or a charity, you are a business and are required to register with HMRC as self employed.

Somehow I bet your integrity doesn't stretch that far though....

What's it to you? Do you work for HMRC?:rotfl:

Honestly, your last comment is dead sarky, the self employed thing has already been explained, if she's confused, she could contact them, or take a chance, up to her. I don't think there was any need to labour the point.

Isn't that rather judgemental and critical? I asked the same question in a post about buying from CBS etc and selling on eBay and I knew nothing of having to register as a trader if you do that!

Yes, paying tax income is part of HMRC but there isn't any need to be critical of someone trying to be honest as she said expressed that she would rather not go down that route of buying from chairty shops to sell on?

I thought one of the "rules" on these boards was no to judge or
criticise but to help and advise where can?

If anyone here does work for DWP then their advice should be taken a great deal more seriously than that of any casual poster.

I don't think it does hurt to make sure we keep reminding people in threads that income needs to be declared. Just because we all know it doesn't mean that someone merely browsing this forum, possibly not even logged in, doesn't need that info.
