you'll find "car boot lots" for sale on Ebay, usually for pick up only but you may find some in your local area.

That's where most of us sell the junk that we can't sell either on ebay or at a car boot, then when it doesn't sell there we bung it on freegle.

You can get job lots on Ebay or at your local general auction house that can then be broken down into individual items, those that don't sell can just be put back into the auction after a short while.

You could ask friends and family if they have any items they dont want which are taking up space.
  • I would re-investigate what you already have. I have kept stuff in the past (clothes, jewellery, belts, scarves, handbags etc) that I rarely wear but which on occasion add colour/accessorise an outfit but are not regularly worn. I don't consider these to be essential and so I have been ruthless and cleared a lot more stuff that I thought I needed! Also sentimental stuff that is wasting space in the loft: cocktail/dinner dresses worn once!, outdated coats and stuff you might need one day..... I have also spent an evening fixing jewellery and jazzing up handbags and sold them at car boots. Packaging can be profitable too - things like Jane Norman carrier bags, refillable perfume bottles, designer handbag dustbags, camera chargers, cables, instructions, old molton brown bottles. Take a second look at things before you consider ditching them.

What about your garage? Do you have a stash of old lead or copper or cables or even old tools - these are valuable items now. Remember gold has a very high value now and mobile phones can be traded in and of course get signed up to Quidco!

Have a good clearout of the garage, shed and loft if you haven't already - there's bound to be some more bits and pieces.

    Good luck!

Careful with this - eBay do not allow these to be sold as the people buying them can use at least the first few items to pass fakes off as the real thing. It may sound petty but it is only helping people who sell counterfeits so don't risk your account. Anything on your list after the dustbags though is fine.

Where would you get items from in order to sell at, say, a boot fair? I'd prefer to live with integrity and don't want to buy things from charity shops and then make money off them, but equally i'm in a situation where i absolutely need more money coming in!

Does your integrity extend to registering with HMRC as self employed?
As soon as you buy something to sell at a profit, even if its bought from a car boot sale or a charity, you are a business and are required to register with HMRC as self employed.

Somehow I bet your integrity doesn't stretch that far though....

I am selling things for my daughter as she can not get a pay pal account due to her bank card. She does not live with me. I asked on Ebay and they said if she had her own ebay account but we had the same paypal account if she messed up it would affect my ebay account........if that makes any sense. So instead of risking my account I said I would list things for her and give her the money after fees etc........can you get in trouble for that?
