Can I just make a comment about people not being aware of this form of saving?
I do consider myself to be a savvy person with my money. Price comparison sites, Martins emails etc etc.
I have always tried to make use of my ISA allowance - what I can afford to save.
I have recently been to my bank - Halifax - as I need advice about saving a reasonable amount of money.
I can honestly say, that even with all the above, until I visited this forum a few months ago I had never heard of the NS&I savings certificates. I have visited their site for Premium Bonds even - but still hadn't seen the link to the savings.
Despite trying to be careful and knowledgeable, I can't believe that in middle age I was not aware of another form of tax free savings.
All I can say is thank you to all you experts on this forum - your knowledge and sharing of your experiences is very much valued by some of us novices!!

I wasn't aware of them either and considering the large tax free allowance it is surprising.
They has had a lot of publicity on here recently because RPI has been relatively high, so they've produced a good return recently, in fact they were so popular they had to be withdrawn for a while and have only recently come back.

On of the problems with using advisors is that many willl not tell you about products such as this (simply because they won't get commission).
A good IFA should, but many will put their own interests first.
This is why you have been advised to do your own research as well as talking to independent advisors.
If you do find one that advises you on such products then grab them with both hands as they obviously aer putting doing the job properly first above their own interests.
