I find the Sainsbury's basics range very good overall. One thing that doesn't do it for me, though, is the basics chocolate - that's horrible!

hello schtee, I want to add your recomendations, can you confirm are you refering to a bar chocolate, drinking chocolate?
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!
  • Couldn't believe the price of peanut butter in Morrisons yesterday so tried the Value Peanut Butter at 52p - its great! Wouldn't have known a difference :-)

thanks miss_independent, I have added the peanut butter to the Morrissons recommendation on the first page, thankyou :)

    A few more for you-
Asda Smartprice Apple Pies are really good, 50p for 6. Put them in the kids lunchboxes when I'm feeling lazy and can't be bothered to bake anything!
Asda Smartprice Golden Syrup is great for baking, 77p for 680g.
Asda Smartprice Red Pesto is really lovely, 60p for 190g
Asda Smartprice Ravioli - the kids like this - 35p for 400g
Asda Smartprice Raisins - So much cheaper that those little boxes and taste identical! - 99p for 500g

EDIT: A quick note about the bags of Smartprice fruit and veg - many of the products are actually cheaper to buy loose per kilo so have a look before adding to your trolley!
Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

    In deep...
  • Sainsbury's basics part-baked baguettes are nice - 38p for a pack of 2.

  • Sainsburys Basics instant mash is great for all kinds of things - I use it for making potato cakes, thickening soups, topping cottage pie etc. however I was disgusted to find that last night it had jumped in price from 19p last week to 39p this week - more than 100% increase in a week!! I supppose it is still quite good value but....

For those of you who think instant mash is vile - I did too, but this stuff is actually very okay!!

  • I've now tried the ASDA Smart Price multi-purpose cleaner and it works just as well as other multi-purpose cleaners (recommended).

Small correction too please - it was Smart Price passata (not pasta) that I recommended.

Oh and I recommend the Tesco value white chocolate - yummy.

Thank you for the list it's made rediscover more value/smart price products.

You've got Tesco value yoghurt on your don't buy list but I think it's pretty good, along with the value chocolate mousse. Great for lunch boxes.
