How many countries around the world can you drink water directly from the tap?

Totally agree we are very lucky.

I find it strange just how much people will pay for a bottle of the stuff. I also can't see the point in shipping it in bottles from France or where ever either. The cost in fuel and transport and the affect on the climate is enormous. Perhaps they could dehydrate it and send it to us in little sachets;)

China has 20% of the worlds population but only 6% of the freshwater supply.

All water has been used millions of times. It's more or less the same water going round and round the water cycle since the formation of the planet. Get over it.

I wouldn't have minded if it had gone round the planet a bit more then, rather than just the U bend, though:p

I live near the sea, and a large river there is water everywhere.

I am going to put all the taps on 24/7 until they do this.

Seriously, where do I have to park my car to stop their access to my water man-hole?

Seriously, why is it so important to you to stop them doing something that will probably save you money? But in answer to your question, you don't need to park your car anywhere. All the water meters I've ever seen have been fitted inside the property.

PS If you're so keen on the river water and sea water then help yourself. Nobody's stopping you.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I doubt it will save me money. I love water and use a lot if it. We had a meter in our last place and it turned out it was under a man-hole flap in the street.

I can't see anything like that out there there here, I am not going to let them under my sink so I guess the laugh is on them this time.

It will almost certainly save you money. Water companies tend to up their costs to non-meter customers far more than metered and I'm pretty sure we'll all have one soon anyway as the laws are changing. It's a finite resource thats been through a process, so its only fair you pay for what you use, same as gas, electric etc... could you imagine unlimited gas/electric??

When we had our meter fitted a few years back (voluntarily) we saved about £150 a year, and thats with two kids and not conciously cutting back...

You are coming across a bit greedy if you don't mind me saying....

Our is external in a small 6"x4" flap in street, where the the stop c0ck used to be (not the internal one- the one where they could cut you off from presumably)
    I went voluntarily,
    saving > £200+ a year
    2006 pre meter = £587 / year
    2010 = £343 /year
    4 bed with 3 to 4 people,
not made any specific efforts to save water over pre meter days

I am guessing you will also laugh when they get a warrant of entry to install the meter they are legally allowed to fit.

Oh and the charges are not loaded on non metered customers as the water companies profits are capped by OFWAT for a 5 year cycle so it makes not difference to them how a person is charged, the profit will remain the same and split between metered , assessed and RV . It also only goes up in line with OFWAT, which again is agreed for 5 years.

Why are you so angry about it all though ? There is nothing you can do and sooner or later you will have a meter so it might be best to just get on with it and start cutting down on your water usage.
