  • - I've been buying prezzies as I go along, and wrapping them!! This is the first year I've done this and I feel so much happier, organised and in control. I don't feel stressed at all and i feel much more excited about Christmas.
    - I started saving £10 a week in June, so I've got £180 saved.
    - I also have about £18.00 in tesco vouchers that I can times by 4 on the clubcard deals
    - Boots advantage card points, althought not sure how many
    - I've been shopping online to help stay stress-free.
    - I ordered Christmas presents on the Boots website where I bought the mix and match 3 for 2 offer, alongside triple points and free delivery because I spent over £45.
    - After reading the thread on retro sweet boxes ( http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=296799 ) I've just bought 3 boxes from Maplin online for £8.75 inc postage and packing, thats under £3 per present, just need to get some sweets for them, which I reckon I can buy for £3, making it £4 total per present, which I am very happy with :)

£103.27 Savings Jar (for christmas food)
    £670 savings account

My son has £9.90 (in only 5p)

I started late this year :(
  • last year me and my sister decided we were sick of all the spending at christmas when a lot of the stuff you give and receive isnt really wanted or needed. we suggested to our immediate family and in laws a £5 limit on presents per person to try and kurb this. we all had a great christmas with people being a lot more considerate about what they bought each other (i.e. i went for vintage ebay jewelry, my step mum bought kurt geiger bags at a local market, my aunt bought books from oxfam). all in all we had a great christmas and no one was in debt afterwards. this year we are doing the same with a slight amendment - £5 limit or a home made gift. agree with your loved ones to limit the spending and you will have just as good a time without the huge credit card bills. afterall christmas is really about spending time with family and friends, not mass consumerism

Just out of interest, how do you spend your Nectar points? I've been saving them for ages and they have now mounted up and I don't know the best way to spend them. I know that they give you money off at Argos, but what is they best way to redeem them so that you get the best return for your points?
