I have had several failed attempts to upgrade to IE7 on desktop pc.

    I have uninstalled zone alarm
    Disabled AVG
    Shut off messenger.

Not sure how to shutdown windows defender?

When I try to instal, it goes through the motions, then says it has not been installed and that the computer needs to be rebooted

Any Ideas, I have IE7 on laptop which installed no problem, and I do like it.

Just right click the defender Icon then select Exit.

You could always put two fingers up to Bill and download Firefox instead.
