Personally i like IE7, I do loads of multi tasking work so the (CTRL+Q) Tab is great for me. I'm a IE7 fan after getting it running ok.

ps - what's this about, or do you know a link where I could stop being lazy, and look it up myself?

This is a setting that relates to dial up usage. ie, as soon as you've downloaded all your messages drop the line to save you money.

In OE go to Tools, Options and select the "Connections" tab. Tick the box referring to "ask before switching" and UNcheck the box for "Hang up after sending and receiving".

Check also in your Internet Properties / connections that you are set to "never dial a connection".

A few very important things everyone should know before attempting to install IE7 is on the Pre-installation advice here

    Pre-install prep

    1. Set a restore point (just in case)
    2. Turn off Automatic Updates (believe me, you'll thank me later)
    3. Disable protective software such as antivirus, antispyware.
    4. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL!!!
    5. Shut down all running programs - including Messenger, Windows Defender. - don't forget to check your systray icons too.
    6. If you are running Zone Alarm 6.5, disconnect from the internet, uninstall Zone Alarm, make sure Windows Firewall is enabled, reconnect to the internet then install IE7. Yes, I’m afraid you have to uninstall ZoneAlarm

    Installation

    1. Install Internet Explorer 7.
    2. Reboot *twice* before running your IE7 Web browser for the first time.
    3. Re-enable your antivirus software.
    4. update your flash shockwave to version 9 or higher at the adobe shockwave download website.

Tips for troubleshooting if you have problems installing IE7

Sometimes the install file may fail - no error message - right click on the downloaded IE7 installation file, select properties, then select "unblock".

    Troubleshooting Internet Explorer after installation

First, make sure you have rebooted TWICE after installation then Run IE in no add-ons mode. START / PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / SYSTEM TOOLS / INTERNETEXPLORER (no add-ons)

    Other problems after insatll are

Sometimes Web pages are coded to detect the IE7 that is being used by a visitor these sites have been coded to detect *up to a particular version* instead of *from a particular version upwards*. If the site does not recognize IE7, it may stop you from viewing the site, or serve up broken CSS code. If you see a broken Web site, or a message such as "This Web site only supports Internet Explorer..." you may be able to fix the problem by adjusting your User Agent String.

Hope this helps all newbies to IE7.

Nope, maybe you have clear type on and you didnt before, just right click your desktop then properties then appearance then effects then switch between clear type or standard.

  • I have had several failed attempts to upgrade to IE7 on desktop pc.

    I have uninstalled zone alarm
    Disabled AVG
    Shut off messenger.

Not sure how to shutdown windows defender?

When I try to instal, it goes through the motions, then says it has not been installed and that the computer needs to be rebooted

Any Ideas, I have IE7 on laptop which installed no problem, and I do like it.
    Nice to save.
