• Hi.

Let me begin by introducing myself, I'm Jon. I own an internet radio station in Norwich, Norfolk launching later this year.

A member of my family has been experiencing problems with Silkies by recieving goods that were never ordered.

Payment was made via their website and it came out of the bank, but they are still asking for payment.

The next order was also cancelled and they are saying it hasn't and they will cancel it, but everytime we look it says the next order will still be sent.

Everytime my family member has phoned them all silkies give is a pack of lies.

From this my radio station decided to start a consumer based show.
For our first case we have decided to investigate the problems people are having with Silkies.

We would like to hear from those who are having problems.

You can send your details to:

E-Mail: consumer@musicradiolive.com
Tel: 07871 008 724

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

• Think this is same company - HCI direct. I have just received a "free"anti-wrinkle stick with a tube of moisturiser and an invoice for £13.98. None of which I ordered.
Reading all your posts, though I think I may have had tights from them years ago.
I am about to e mail them to tell them these are unsolicited good and to collect them within 14 days or I will consider them to be mine. Looking at the posts on here I may also threaten them with trading standards.

Has anyone else had experience of the moisturiser?
• hi outbackannie

This company is a real pain in the backside (to put it mildly).
In the end I had to send the stuff back at MY expence just to get them off my back.
As far as they were concerned I had asked for the stuff and they wanted their money.
I don't think that even Trading Standards have an answer apart from send the stuff back with a letter.
But that cost my money and my time.
I try and live my life as honestly as possible and try to be as fair to others as possible, Silkies dont do that. I would not dream of running my business the way that they run theirs.
The only thing we can do I vote with our wallets.
So I say DON'T EVER BUY ANY THING FROM SILKIES and maybe they will get the message. or maybe go out of business!
Any way I can sleep at night knowing that I'm not ripping people off.

My advice is that if you get anything from Silkies in the post - Don't open it, just write on the front 'Not Known At This Address' and put it back in the letter box. And keep doing it untill they stop.

Hope that has been some help. (I have let off some steam anyway)
Regards

I have bought silkies tights for years and never had a problem with them.
I have never received a product I didn't order and have always been able to postpone a shipment of 4 pairs if I didn't want them.
I suspect a lot problems are caused by people not reading T&C's and forgetting to cancel etc.

• hi fiendishly

I had never heard of Silkies untill the package turned up let alone reading any terms and conditions.

I'm sorry, It's a big con. Read some of the messeages in this thread and you will see I'm not the only one.

At the end of the day, sending unsolicited goods is against the law.

The reason you got the tights/socks is that you or someone pretending to be you completed a card or advert for them. (I use to work in their call centre.)

The cards use to be attached to adverts that contained the small print or in envelopes with other bits of paper with the small print on them, the cards themselves contained no small print.

Trading Standards will not do a thing because legally you can ask Silkies to collect the tights at the company's own cost or keep them if they refuse to. The complaints have been around for nearly 10 years and Trading Standards have yet taken any action.

To stop them calling you and sending more tights write a letter to the Data Registrar at this address:

Data Controller: HOSIERY CORPORATION INTERNATIONAL
Address:
SUITE 4
SOUTH HARRINGTON BUILDING
SEFTON STREET
BRUNSWICK BUSINESS PARK
LIVERPOOL
L3 4BQ

In the letter state:
1. Your name, address and telephone number
2. That under the Data Protection Act 1998 they are to stop processing your personal data within 28* days and this includes harassing telephone calls
3. If they don't do so you will take further action including court action where they will be liable for costs.
4. Finally add a paragraph asking them to come and collect the unordered goods within 28* days under the Unsolicited Goods and Services Act 1971.

You must send the letter by recorded delivery and keep the receipt.

If you then receive another phone call after 30 days of sending the letter complain to the information commissioner. www.ico.gov.uk/

Unfortunately if you don't use recorded delivery you cannot complain to the information commissioner.

BTW many of Silkies customers where people who didn't like to buy tights in shops or found that the particular tights suited their figure.

*28 days is just a reasonable time period to tell company's to leave you alone. They cannot pretend they can't update their records in this time period.

• I received a payment demand for £13.98 from Silkies this morning. This came in an envelope with 'MONITORED DELIVERY' printed on it in heavy red type and 'STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED'.

I was shocked when I opened it.

What I had thought to be a free sample turns out to be a chargeable item. I have emailed them to say that they may have the goods back when they send me a prepaid envelope which will suitably protect them in the post.

Luckily they are not happy to send me further 'free' samples (not that I remember sending for the first one) until I have paid the existing account.

Has anyone else had this happen? What will happen next?

Somebody help me please!!

• I have had an email today regarding the unwanted moisturiser sent to me by Silkies.

This is what they had to say:-

Dear Mrs X
We received a request from your address to receive a free sample of moisturiser and part of the offer was that we would send a further supply, unless advised otherwise. I regret if there has been any misunderstanding regarding the offer. The account and balance have since been cancelled and no further request for payment will be made.
Please return the goods to

Yours sincerely
