Are there any recommended travel lodges in central London? We're going to see lee Evans in September and would love to have a little overnight stay with the hubby in London? Doesn't have to be close to wembley but would be great if was more central so can do late night dinner and drinks just wondering if anyone knows of a decent one as the only ones I've seen were where we used to live and were a bit shoddy!
Thanks x
have tried 3 -
kings cross - one side of building was very noisy as overlooked late night pubs, although second night in different part of hotel was very quiet
9they were seperate visits) close to station but area a bit iffy.
Marylebone - next door to train staion but quiet
Southwark - very new and clean next door to southwark tube station but quiet
Would only stay in kings cross if deperate again/ for the station but either of the other 2 were great with good transport links to centre.
Got both in sale for £9 per night in southwark one that was for a family of 4 - no complaints from me!! :j
Hope that helps.0 -

We have used several Travelodges in London. I like Tower Bridge my wife likes Docklands both very clean and on the DLR.City airport was ok. But a long walk from DLR or Underground transport if you are on foot.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Thumbs up from me and missus for the Southwark one

Aw, c'mon. Travelodge is what you see is what you get. It you can get a family room for less than £40 a night then this is superb value for London.
I am a great TL fan and I love to get the London ones for £15 or so a night in the sales.
I have stayed in most (if not all) of the London ones over the years. they are all much of a muchness which is what you expect from a chain!
However, my opinion for what it is worth:
1. Covent Garden - best location in London for tourists. Smashing pub - The Intrepid Fox closeby.
2. Aldgate East - the most friendly and helpful staff that I have ever come across in donkey's years of staying in hotels and so handy for brick Lane and all its delights.
3. Kings Cross - central location but a bit noisy in the morning with the train line. Great for getting the morning papers the night before and for enjoying the ambiance of a rejuvenating area.
4. Tower Bridge - smashing location and friendly pub The Minories is next door as well as a Wetherspoons..
5. Waterloo - a few nice fishnchip shops outside and early morning cafes. Handy for the pubs around Waterloo and a lovely walk over the bridge to Charing Cross and Theatre Land.
6. Royal Scot and Farringdon - only 50 yards from each other and 10 minutes walk from KX or three stops on the bus from KX. Dead handy and often maligned wrongly on TripAdvisor and the like. The only drawback is the walk is likely to be a bit scary for unaccompanied ladies late at night - not that I have ever seen anything amiss but just to be careful.
Would you like some more opinions? Just ask.
The moral is: get stuck in as TLs are superb value anywhere in the sale but London hotels are a steal at the price if you are lucky enough to find any!

I know Travelodge is Travelodge (if that makes sense), but there's still good and bad ones.
We like Southwark, but wondered about trying some of the others if Southwark not available tomorrow morning.--- Warning: Grumpy Old Man in Training ---0 -

I can understand the points that you make. Southwick is quite new and worth going for, but the difference between the London TLs is so marginal that it is not worth bothering about. Believe me.
The outer London ones are still good value and often more like an Alan Partridge motel, but personally I do not think that an hour's journey by tube is worth a few quid saving in hotel charges. Now £50 a night is worth discussing!
I take the view that all I want is a cheap and clean place to stay. Hey, it's London, do you intend to stay in or see the sights?
Best of luck in the sale and have a great time."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Great stuff Chris. I have stayed there and found no problems at all. Handy for both the City and the East End."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
