Carrier bags in France

Hi All

A very minor point, but just wanting to know (as am off to Royan with the caravan soon) - do they charge for carrier bags in France? I'd prefer not to take our own normal (reused) shopping bags, as we use supermarket carrier bags to line our rubbish bin in the caravan. However if I am going to have to pay for them I'd rather bring my usual bags with us!

    Yes they do charge for carrier bags and all the supermarkets I have used have used Bags for life only for around 75pence each.

    Many do charge for decent ones. You could use the ones from the vegetable section to line your rubbish bin but they're rather flimsy. The bags for life are about 8p each.

    Yes they do charge but you can buy a bag-for-life one. I just took a few of my own plastic bags for shopping. I took the types of bags you get from clothes shops because they tend to be a bit stronger and longer-lasting than the supermarket ones.

    Free bags are still available from a few smaller supermarkets. You can get bags for life at or near the checkout. They also do useful bottle bags with divisions for 6 bottles. Some supermarkets also require you to weigh the veg before you go to the checkout. Plus the trolleys need a euro to release them or go to the checkout and get a token free (jetton) When camping with kids in the past they would see how many jettons they could collect as they all come with the shop name on, we still have a tin full!

    They haven't had free carrier bags for ages - well before they became popular here. When you go to their supermarkets, you can sometimes buy ones that are much bigger and sturdier than the ones over here.

    Agree with that I rember 5 or 6 years ago carrier bags not being avaialble unless paid for and shopping flying down the belt at us with mno where to put it!

    Just take a couple of Tesco type bag for life's with you and pack your clothes/toys/food when you travel in them

    or pack it all back into trolley and loose into the boot

    That would mean no beer - too heavy for us poor girls to carry, no problems with the cakes and chocolates though!!! :beer:
