  • Fab post Skint! Hit the nail on the head as ever. DF journeys are complete yo-yo's in every way possible.

OMG to the boots lol :D

I think every day now about the balance to be had - some days that works in favour of beating the debt like an old rug, others it's treating myself to a little whatever it may be BUT I don't impulse buy now. I will think about it at least overnight before buying anything bigger than a few quid etc.

Hope everyone's having a great day.

    Debt - CCV £3792
CCB £1383 (took a hit for a holiday)

    Loan 2 £1683
    Total £8601 Was £39302
  • Me too, and the guilt associated with purchasing anything..... haha would rather do without!
    Trying to shift that debt!
  • Guilt about buying stuff? Yep, I get a bit tick in the box for that one!

Speaking of which, even though DH said I could spend as much as I wanted and we have the money sitting in the account, I've decided to buy a cheaper camera. I've got £60 worth of vouchers but I've gone for a £90 camera rather than the £140 one. The cash to top up the vouchers is coming from the sale of the old phone (£90) so I could have had either and remained money neutral but I just couldn't do it! I hadn't even committed to buy it but I was waking up in the night feeling bad about even thinking about buying the more expensive model! How mad is that???

Anyway, have just been and had my eyebrows waxed and now I'm completely man down on the sofa. Am completely wiped after my lively day yesterday and I was up at 3am...

Still, got to keep awake because the plasterer is due back at some point today to finish the old fireplace. Was glad we went to the "exclusive preview event" at the new Lidl's last night - got a goodie bag which had biscuits, raspberry jam and a bottle of lemonade! Was very funny watching DH though, with his collar all turned up so no-one would recognise him :rotfl:

Off to an open evening at a potential secondary school for DS this evening. Not really looking forward to walking around a huge school, but needs must...not really sure what I should be looking for or asking about to be honest - any advice?
  • winnie, We can be the Guilty Handbaggers. When we start our group. Which will not happen, as you will buy an economy guitar and I will use pans instead of drums, and dont even dare to think what DF will use as a mic.

As for schools what I liked about the one I chose was a stringent uniform policy, yes. AND the teachers wearing suits. Now how can someone in jeans and a t shirt enforce uniform policy?

Support networks available. Schools are big and scary. My daughters bright as a button but that can bring its own stresses. I like the pastoral groups, the homework clubs, the website and text messages for parents etc.

Other than that its gut feeling, these are our babies and we need them to be ok.

  • I could just put some elastic bands around a tissue box instead? Wonder if DF can play the spoons?

Thanks for the input about the school - I'd already done the obvious like checking the Ofsted and absentee reports, but its those extra bits and bobs and like you say gut feeling that matters. We are smack in the middle of two schools, in the catchment area for one and his junior school is a feeder school for the other. We'd much rather he goes to the closer school because its so much better, he can walk safely and has just become an academy. The other school is nearly three times the size and sited on a dual carriageway.

All he's bothered about is that they have a football club and that he can walk to and fro!
  • yeah lol the three school I entertained are all doing well in ofsted terms- the one closest to our home had shown great improvement, and was doing too badly... so we looked at 4 altogether.

I had been up for a look and the thing which struck me was as I said a teacher in jeans and a t shirt, stating how they had a strict uniform policy. Great, but how can you be a role model for that when you turn up with a Terminator t shirt?

Another school was on a main road but was high performing. The thing I picked up from there was that there was plenty for high performers. I need to know what happens when things go wrong and there was too much bumbling for me. It put me off. They didnt expect that question from the mother of a prospective high performer I think.

A third school ticked alot of boxes but I saw a child being bullied in the playground, and I picked up on it and a teacher just walked past.

It might be a pair of friends and thats how they normally behave, but it put me off.

Kids just want to go with their friends somewhere easy. Thats the nature of the beast. go with whats best for you and to be honest, if it isnt working you can change after year one.

  • Morning all!

Sorry about your tea DF - does that mean we've uncovered your secret talent? :D

The school visit last night was fantastic - the school is far better than I expected it to be, and I expected it to be amazing! The headteacher was passionate, the teachers were all in suits, the kids were all in uniform, the school grounds were immaculate, the stats are incredible - safe to say I was VERY impressed. Today's first job is putting in DS's application :D

After that I'm going to wash the curtains, clean the ktichen and bathroom, bath the dog, finish the filing, nip to Tesco and any thing else that I find that needs to be tackled! Think I may have started nesting....DH will be pleased lol!

Has anyone heard of Partylite? I've been invited to a party tonight but I'm not sure whether to go? I usually hate those sorts of things because I feel so guilty if I don't buy something but on the other hand it could be handy for Xmas presents...

Plasterer finished the front room yesterday, so he's been paid. Just got the new doors to pay for now (about £100 - already saved, just waiting for the bill) and thats the house refurb bills all paid. Just a couple of pots of paint to buy but I can fit those into the grocery budget coz I is clever like dat :D

I'll be so glad when its all done and paid for - not just because I'll have my house back, but because I can look at the bank accounts without thinking "oh that's earmarked for X" or "I'd better keep that aside for X" - our money is our own again and debt busting can move back up the priority list.
