Did you sell tickets on ebay?

Well, you've not done what you've been accused of then have you? ;)

TBH, I know little about this kind of thing and couldn't possibly advise you. But you need to find out what the law is regarding selling Wimbledon tickets - AFAIK it's not a 'designated sporting event' and there are some ways that ticket touting might not be illegal (depending on how the tickets are sold I assume).

However, as an aside (and again I'm not an expert) I doubt you're under any legal compunction to tell a solicitor anything. The police and courts? Yes. But some speculative solicitor's letter? Probably not.

Don't tell them anything until you know exactly what you're doing.

Found this on ebay. Hopefully it's of some comfort to you.. although I'd hang fire and see what others on here say :)
If you sell Wimbledon Tickets, their solicitors may bid on your item to obtain your details.

You may then receive a letter.

Do not panic. Google the name of the solicitors plus "wimbledon tickets" for information.

You will find that while you should not really have sold the sports or concert tickets, Wimbledon do not have any grounds for the threats they make.

You should write to them and ask them to justify the lawfulness of their request and the level of damages they are claiming. It is normal in law that if you have breached a contract or committed another civil offence against someone, they are entitled to their damages which are essentially nil. They are not normally entitled to your gain. Wimbledon will attempt to ignore your questions, but you should stick to your guns.

TBH, I'd just write back saying 'I didn't sell the tickets on ebay'. True and irrefutable and I also assume ebay could confirm this. End of story :)

You still didn't sell them on ebay. You are not lying when you say 'I didn't sell the tickets on ebay. The buyer did not provide the funds'. End of conversation.

I guess so. I'm not great on ebay processes.

Even so, don't worry too much. Either ignore, or do what ebay suggests, i.e. ask them to justify the lawfulness of their request. They've not lost anything (by your selling the tickets) so they're not entitled to anything. That's contract law. Don't be intimidated.
