  • im sure when i read it,it says household income.id have to check,i wouldnt have applied otherwise and wasted an application.i dont think ill get the card, but if i do,then ill be made up,im bending the rules i think,as im sure when it states household income it means u and your partner, but i aint got one,i live with my parents, but there both own their own businesses and earning over 100k pa,so ill just play dumb and say i thought this my household income!!!!anyway id like to get one over on these agencies.ive been rejected for a few things in the past im 21 not much debt had loan overdraft and direct debits for over 3 years never missed any payments ever, never late.i have a credit score of just over 900,it gave my house a 5 star credit rating.i can only hope,i will defo keep u up to date mate.merry xmas

Yeah Household income is misleading isn't it? I still live at home and our household income is high but i wouldn't put that on the form as what my folks earn is nothing to do with me.

The thing with 'credit scores' is that they are worthless. The provider will make a decision themselves and not be swayed by what agencies say. A creidt score of 900 will mean nothing to Amex. They won't even look at that. They will just look at your file and make a decision based on the facts presented to them.

If you get one then i may be tempted to go for one! Merry Christmas  :)
  • i will keep you updated mate
  • I do not know if they are hard to get but I do know that lots of places do not take them so I would not bother. My friend has one and I would say that only half the places we go to take them. I think they charge the retailer more than the others.

The big retailers will more than likely take them but your independants probably won't.
  • Apparently the retailers hate AMEX as getting money back from them is like pulling at teeth, and they get charged a relatively high rate for taking it.

Got mine easy enough with a £3.5k limit and I only have an average credit rating.

I've got 2 AMEX cards. A Nectar one and a new cashback one. They share the credit limit of £10k.

The platinum cashback one is very pretty. Neither were hard to get, but then my income is higher than 20k

American Express charge very high commission rates, as a result when you offer an AE card the usual first response is;- "do you have something else": AND as someone else has already pointed out, a lot of small places don't take them at all. For the same reason !

Anyone got any experience with them?
I applied for the Platinum cashback card on Monday. I phoned Amex today to check all was ok and they confirmed that I had been accepted. Got a higher credit limit than on any of my other cards and was told that if I close any of the others the credit limit on those could be added to that which Amex have just given me. Result :D.

i get the impression that american express are thought of as the most prestigious cards available, are they a harsh credit scorer?i have no history of bad debt and have never been late on any payment ever.i have a overdraft a loan and a credit card, all up to date and in check, ive applied for the american express platinum cashback card.my credit score was 888/1000 with checkmyfile.it gave me a 4 star credit rating.whatu think my chances of being accepted?anyone got any experience with them?

    thanks again

Having had a Platinum one for 7 years I can assure you there is absolutely nothing Prestigious about them whatsoever.
Customer service is appalling coupled with their disrespect for their customers I decided to get out !!!

Your "credit score" of 888 means ZILCH as their is no such thing as a universal score. All financial institutions have their own lending criteria and will make their decision based on that alone.
