Got a job but Job Centre insist I get a different one!

I have recently been offered a job in a school which starts in September. As I am on jobseekers allowance I have been told I need to apply for other 'better' jobs until I start in September!
As I have already agreed to the offer, I don't see what difference it would make if I was offered another position, say next week, because that too would not start until September.

The trouble is, JSA is for people looking for work hence the title, Job SEEKERS Allowance. I agree in your situation but they have their rules so the country doesn't become skint. Hmm they worked!0

Because you would lose your money as you would not be seen as actively seeking work as you have a job to go to albeit in a few months time?
What is stopping you taking some temporary summer job between now and September and signing off? That is how the jobcentre sees it.0 -

Why would another position also not start until September unless you were only looking for work within schools? (which I think wouldn't be allowed??)
You're not jobseeking anymore are you,so why would you be entitled to job seekers allowance?Find a temp job to see you over, temp with an agency if possible or get another job and forget the one in the schoolIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Yes you have a job starting in september but the JC want you to get a job for now eg a temporary job for a few months till september, whats to say this school ends up a no go for some reason you will then be back to square 1 in the job hunt.0

Any ideas what temporary jobs would be enough to pay child care and my mortgage?0

Well whats in your area as wages may vary from 1 end of country to other. You could take on a part time job but ask for as many hours as possible and give notice in sufficient amount of time but might be pointless so a temporary would be better.0

Warehouse, factory, clerical, fast food, retail, admin... the list could go on, and on.Per Mare Per Terram0 -
two part time ones or a part time one and tax credits? You can get tax credits for temporary work.
If you are not actively jobseeking (because you have a job to go to) then in all reality you are no longer entitled to JSA. If they find you a temporary one in the mean time and you refuse it you will lose JSA (and possibly associated benefits, I assume you get housing benefit too) regardless of whether you have a job in a few months or not.0 -
I have been training to be a teaching assistant for the past year, I also volunteer for Home Start, am studying with the Open University and have a part time job (which I declare, before I get lynched!)
My mortgage lenders have agreed to accept interest only payments until I am back in employment. I don't know of any temporary (i.e just over month) jobs that would pay enough to cover childcare and my full mortgage.0 -
they have to continue to require you to do jobsearch while you are still claiming because the job offer may fall through or you may change your mind. that would mean you had had a holiday from the requirements. so everyone would be faking job offers to get the jobcentre off their backs for a bit. if you really dont want to give up the job in september for another job then just go through the motions to keep the jobcentre happy. to be honest you probably should keep giving 100% because something even better could come along between now and september.EleanorRig wrote: »I have recently been offered a job in a school which starts in September.
