Dunstonh (a valued and incredibly astute poster, imo) raised reasonable questions. You responded with a personal attack.

    Stay classy.

I asked them to cancel DD and SO and they did not and still tried to collect.

OK, so month 1 you asked them to cancel DDs and SOs, and for whatever reason there was a !!!!-up and they didn't. I can hbuy that.

As Dunstonh says, you presumably complained there and then, quoting the DD guarantee at them and demanding the initial charges incurred as a result of the !!!!-up were refunded to you. Didn't you? if not, why not?

No way on earth that scenario can continue for 4-5 years.

And charges for bounced cheques are still down to you I'm afraid. If you know the funds aren't there to cover it, then you have no business writing a cheque.

Let's just crucify a newbie, why not? This is so embarrassing. We know nothing the OP's circumstances, do we? He could have been ill, or too stressed about the situation to face it.

Would you like to tell us the full story OP, if you can remember it all that is? I have never been in debt in my life, have never asked for credit, but I can imagine how easy it would be to get into a mess. Did anybody listen to Moneybox on Radio 4 last weekend?

You asked for help, we're trying to help, if you don't answer questions how can we help ?

And whats with the "thieves" comment, are you referring to HSBC ? Because if not, your comment is totally out of order.

No-one's crucifying anybody. And if there's anything about the OPs circumstances pertinent to the matter in hand, then he simply has to explain it. Otherwise we can only comment on what he's told us.

    consequence of events.

i will type in baby language so you get it

    i have money in accout

    i write cheque

bank tries to collect DD that i cancelled

    not enough funds for it

    unpaid fee applied

    cheque goes to clear

now not enough funds as unpaid fees kick in

    more fees for bounced cheque

    viscous circle
