we have a choice of tesco or waitrose where I live - all the others mean a long train or bus ride, Tesco is the cheapest but Waitrose by far havethe best reductions fo end of date products - I bought some posh frozen pasta sauce originally £4.50 for 31p, best bargain though was just before christmas when they paidus 50p to take away some baguettes - price was reduced & they still had a multibuy on them

I go to Tescos because it's closest. ASDA is probably cheaper but there isn't one close to me - I shopped in ASDA when I lived in SW London though, and so I can say that Tesco products are better quality. I LOVE Waitrose but it's very expensive. I shop at Sainsbury's at lunch-time sometimes and I find that quite expensive too. However, I've found a Morrisons in the town where I work, and I might start cycling out there at lunch-time instead.

For fruit and veg I've found the local market to be the cheapest and the best quality, and I get all my meat from the local butcher. I also find Lidl is best for things like pickles, cereals and biscuits. Their frozen paella is also very good.

I use Tesco but that is because it is 5 mins away. I have all the other big supermarkets within a reasonable distance and have shopped at all of them in the past, basically just to see the difference. I find Sainsburys more expensive.

I have tried shopping using My Supermarket starting in different stores and find generally it always comes out the one you are shopping in is the cheapest. I suppose it is because if you are buying a stores own brand there may not be a like for like in another store so you have to choose a branded option. Then again maybe it is just me!
