Good afternoon all,
I'm curious to know if there is much difference in price between the big three? Everyone I speak to seems bias towards their own preference.

All depends on what you buy. Do a shopping list in mysupermarket and see how they compare - Asda is usually cheapest for me which is handy as it's right across the road!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

It depends what you're buying, really. I tend to find Asda is the cheapest, but my local one doesn't have as wide a range of products as Tesco and Morrisons, plus it's generally not very well stocked. I check the websites to see what offers are on at different supermarkets and decide where to go based on that.0

Asda defo for me too.
We have Morrison's in the town where I work, Asda in the town where I live and Tesco in the next Town. I have easy access to all three and find Tesco the most expensive by far.
Morrisons often have very good deals on too, so I shop between the two and get bargains at both every time but if i had to pick one it would be asda.
Have you an aldi near you as I find them even cheaper than asda but can't do a full shop there as they don't have a very big range of certain things. Can't remember what I was looking for but they didn't sell it, think it was lasagne sheets or spaghetti or similar.0 -
I love Sainsburys. I had to my shop in Tesco last week, and it cost me almost £30 more. I still have no idea why?!
The nearest Morrisons is about an hour away, so I don't use them, but they used to have good offers so when I was closer I'd pop in.
As for Tesco and Asda...well, it's all relative. Use one of those compare sites, and see what comes out cheaper. Also consider your shopping style...do you use basics, or branded, and do you buy reduced goods? I should think this will all make a difference...0 -
I love Sainsbury's too - this is my nearest and newest supermarket, within walking distance but I find it almost on par with the prices of Tesco.0

I've tried them all and find Asda the cheapest, and Waitrose my favourite...we shop at Asda :P.0

for us tescos used to be the cheapest, consistantly for years because they did more value or stores own than the others but in the last 18 months we've noticed them get progressively more expensive to the point they are never the cheapest out of the three for us now. Asda can be good (especially with deals on fresh stuff as we cook from scratch and get through alot as a family of seven) and good for deals on the few branded things I do buy but i find we get the cheapest results by shopping around and planning so we're buying things when we're at the store we know they're cheapest at (eg- if we're at tesco and there's a value item I know keeps I'll buy a months worth, if we're in asda and something branded we use is on offer I'll stock up, we make a point of nipping in morrisons for bread - 2 loaves for £1 at the moment)
Waitrose I wander around when I want to pretend I'm rich
(is it quite sad DH and I did walk around waitrose the other week in a village whilst out driving just to see how we could live once he's finished his degree and established in a career... then we remembered we have 5 kids to get through university and resigned ourselves to a lifetime of Asda!) :j BSC #101 :j0 -
Get thee onto mysupermarket and start adding your usual goods to your usual retailer's basket. You then see a bar chart at the top comparing the prices of the equivalent product in the Big Four Supermarkets Who Deliver (Ocado, Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's). Makes interesting viewing (Tesco always comes out as expensive as Ocado for us!)They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

I tend to shop at Asda. For what we buy, they tend to work out cheapest and they often have good offers on too. I also use Iceland alot.0

Big 4 in cheapest to dearest:
Asda
Tesco and Morrisons fairly joint - Tesco do better offers and clubcard points, so they're maybe slightly better than Morrisons
Sainsbury's0
