Is the compensation culture really turned so petty now. Is it just me who would throw a dodgy carton of apple juice in the bin and get on with my life?

yes it is, and no it isn't. Just be careful expressing that opinion as some people take offence easily.

I think that the idea behind compensation has gone beyond greed and has actually turned into a genuine expectation from some parts of society.

Like you I'd have just chucked it in the bin and written it off as bad luck. Not to say that there is anything wrong with bringing it back to the retailer and asking for a refund/replacement, but compensation is a little much.

I agree with this. People seem to have an expectation now that if they are inconvenienced in any way shape or form, then they should be compensated for it. Basically a startling number of people now seem to be putting ludicrous values on their time in many cases far more than the equivalent hourly rate they get paid.

We all know that having to make phone calls, right letters or return to a store is irritating, but it is just part of life surely?

Have your leg amputated by a faulty lawn mower, sure, compensate that, but compensate you for a bank error that got resolved quickly and without dispute - utter nonsense.

We did this when I bought a box of 24 weetabix which turned out to only have 12 biscuits in it... OH emailed them and they sent us a very nice letter apologising and some vouchers, enough to buy a box of 72 :) and I'd say that was generous.

I'd just say take the juice back? Why isn't a refund enough?

If you had read a reply to a previous user I do not want any sort of compensation I wanted to make sure they were aware of the problem and possibly investigate the whole batch saving people complaining etc

I was wondering if I had a right to contact anyone about it other than the store as they aren't helpful.

I opened a packet of biltong, and found it was a bit manky, with a small amount of mold growing on it. I called the manufacturer and gave them the batch number to recall the product. Nothing to do with compensation, we wanted them to know there was a dodgy batch so people wouldn't get sick.

A week later a huge box of all the varieties of biltong they made turned up on the doorstep. We checked each bag before we ate it, but it was a nice gesture on their part.

You asked what your rights are in this matter - you can call the manufacturer directly. Give them any serial/batch number you can find and explain the problem. Then buy concentrate in future, you won't get lumps. :)

    Thank you :-)

I did always wonder what the difference was, just thought one was clear the other cloudy.

Is this a stupid question...but did you shake it beforehand? My son opened a carton of juice, poured several glasses for friends then a little later offered me a glass which was really thick and lumpy. Turned out he hadn't shaken it, the others had all quite watery drinks while I got all the fruit pulp in one go. In my case it was orangey coloured but could have been described as snot-like if it was more green in colour
